" if he keeps going on about razors and his sensitive skin much more, you pin him down whilst I smash him round the head with his laptop."

I think you are quoting Mrs FIFTY there

It has been this and Skyhook suspension ECUs :D

Back again couple of things to report. The Platinum X blades are extraordinary - I have gone through 3x of them all very smooth no nicks, cuts or irritation.

I tried the Wilkinson Sword... Much like the Derby Extra it started off super smooth but once the PTFE coating disappeared I was left with what felt like a blunt blade scraping my skin off... Swiftly back to the Platinum X blades then!

I am guessing that my preference is towards a more aggressive closed comb razor design with blades that are on the sharper end of the scale in order to have the type of shave that I look forward to. So far any platinum PTFE coated blade has been the dream... Yet to try the feathers

Also I got a little too f'd up on the weekend and spent too much bidding late night on vintage razors on eBay auctions... All Gillette - picked up a 1960 Fatboy, 1966 Slim, 1970 Super Adjustable and a 1950s English featherweight ball end tech... Hopefully 2 out of 4 will still be usable or all 4 will need to be sent away for refurbishment which won't be fun - at least I am not spending much on Super-Unleaded at the moment lol.

It's as bad as HiFi!

Hi-fi gets a lot more expensive though

"Darling I picked up a bargain on eBay last night - a pair of B&W 684 floor standing speakers, they were only £350, mint condition and I have to go to Birmingham tomorrow to collect them"

Mrs FIFTY: "FFS..."

True story!

I thought I’d stop in on the SM beautician, personal grooming and sensitive skin thread and we’ve moved on to butt plugs. WTF happened there!?

DE razors are wayy to easy, I have moved on to shaving with this now... 1870s Mappin Brothers straight razor... 13/16ths 1/4 hollow. The buffalo horn scales have some damage but they are not broken

My collection has somewhat expanded - I guess if I am not turning super unleaded into Italian V8 sounds then buying a few vintage razors won't do any harm lol.

To put it all somewhere I upcycled an old folding chair from IKEA that was destined to be fire wood into a shave station

This was a fun little project, I used what I had in the garage minus a paint brush and pot of walnut varnish that I got from B&Q. Some may note that it is already full but fear not as I have another 3 chairs to cut up lol.

Strange obsession! ;)

Meh. More like an endless rabit hole. Or a distraction from not seeing any friends or family since August 2020(?) Although that has changed now

I am going to sell 3-4 of the DEs because they don't work for me and get a couple more straights then just enjoy the hardware.

I particularly like the 1959 Gillette 1.95 Adjustable / "Fatboy" - that and the Merkur 39C are easily my favourite DEs

I am picking up the method with the straight razor fairly naturally and I have gone from taking over 1 hour to 30 minutes from strop to shaved. It really is a superior shave and leaves my skin feeling awesome.

Highly tempted but as I've mentioned: shower.

Secondly I haven't got 30 minutes to shave! FWIW my father would use an open and could shave just as fast I do with a DE. Or indeed anything given the DE is not any slower for me than a Gillette thing, for example.

I have got to the point with the DE that it doesn't take any longer than a cartridge to get the job done.

With a closed comb razor you can get away with terrible slap dash method not so much with open comb and the straight is all about breathing easy and taking your time, rushing causes slicing - yikes.

In an attempt to spread the wet shaving bug I got my friend a starter kit for his 35th Birthday. The razor is a Parker slant clone of the Merkur. It is a bit different than the usual crate of craft ales I get him every year lol.

Btw you should try KAI blades - they are made in Japan, similar to Feathers in terms of sharpness but so smooth and they last longer (although more expensive per blade) I much prefer them to the feathers.

Thanks. I'll try to remember when I place my next order for a year's supply. I think it'll be due in October time

Well it turns out this rabbit hole runs quite deep and while not filling up the tank of the Maser with super unleaded due to its ongoing drive train overhaul I have amassed a lot of gear.

I have almost entirely switched to shaving (my face) with a straight razor now which suits me great but admittedly is a bit of a faff with stropping and maintaining those facile invisible edges on natural whetstones.

I particularly like vintage razors - there's something special to repurposing 100-170 year old antiques. I also have some nice razors made by an artisan dalled Drew Dick, I have a fixed edge Damascus steel, a traditional folding straight and he made a Damascus steel kitchen knife for me as well, fantastic work and a great edge. I have recently ordered a Rigarazor and am also looking at a couple of Artrazors as well who are from other renowned modern razor makers.

If anyone is interested in switching over drop me a line and I can let you know the best products to avoid having to buy a load of **** like I have... it can get addictive as you are buying shiny things all of which for the same purpose but each one achieves a slightly different outcome - thankfully the soap/aftershave acquisition disorder missed me as my skin reacts to heavily perfumed products.
