It must be the skyhook then ? Why would the rear shock shake like a vibration mobile phone ?

I have no idea. You're really sure that it's that that's clicking? The only think that I can think of is that the solenoid valve is chattering on and off

Im with Catman on this - its very similar to the nose my Central Heating boiler was making when the heating first came on thjs winter.

Turned out the ignition was shot and the noise was repeated attempts by the ECU to the ignition to spark. Maybe the unti it is sticking or not registered its fully open/closed.

Its electrical Matt , its not a rattle. It does it when stationary and in nuetral .

Does the shock have an actuator ? I thought it did nt and just had a electrical charge that make the oil in the shock increase its viscosity ?

Are you sure you haven't trapped a dolphin or kangaroo in the boot? Either is completely possible knowing you!

Shock has a solenoid which changes hole size for the damping movement, restricting flow through the hole if that makes sense !
Does the noise stop if you disconnect the wiring to the shock?

That sounds like a failing solenoid coil. because the wire inside breakdown the resistance is too high and so the magnetic field fluctuates.

Unplug the damper, if the noise stops that'll be it. As easy as that sounds :)

Ill unplug it over the weekend and drive it about . If it does nt do it any more ill get another shock and replace it . Might aswell lower the whole car while im at it and it needs a Geo anyway . ;)

Did you ever figure this out? My car started making a similar noise - and no warning lights - last weekend. I could not find a source and then just stumbled on this forum topic. Any help is very much appreciated! Thank you.

It's the active shock absorber . Take the car for a drive then leave it in neutral running . Remove the rear boot side panel and back trim and slide your hand down the side of the petrol tank and find the top of the shock . Wait till it does it again and you should feel a vibration.

The dampers contain a small electronic valve inside the top of the unit. In simple terms, this valve changes the flow of oil inside the damper which in turn varies the damping force and thus the stiffness of the suspension. See more here: https://aldousvoice.com/2013/02/15/ferrari-360-active-suspension/.

The carbon canister doesn't contain any moving parts: https://aldousvoice.com/2012/09/04/ferrari-360-fuel-evaporation-system/

That is a very interesting diagram, it looks like one solenoid coil moves two valves against springs of different strengths and by varying the voltage (and therefore the current) the ECU can open one valve or both. I wonder if the skyhook damper has the same three settings? I always assumed it would be on or off as in Sport and Comfort. Do you know?

I think they can be refurbished - is it the actuator that sits on top of the shock which is making the racket?

Thats the 3200 version Stu, his is a 4200, its all internally done, so used shock is probably the best way forward.

I think there were a couple of companies that said they could rebuild the 4200 shocks. One was in ireland i think but theybhad to see the shock first as not all were repairable.

I cant remember which companies did offer the service. Will post it up if i remember.
