I didn't find the brakes any more difficult to work on than other motors I've had. Much easier than rusted up Citroen BX inboard rear disks (shudder at the memory of those!!!).
My problem was moving the car with no handbrake shoes fitted I mangled one of the handbrake actuator cams when a wheel bolt caught it - only £17 from Lancaster and with me next day!
4mm drill will clear the disk holes and I took most of the ridges out of the handbrake drum and disks very crudely by reversing the drums on the hub and getting the good lady to hold the revs at about 2 in gear so it span whilst I tackled the drum with a 4" grinder (but MSP etc hated it!).... Would be so much easier if I had a nice big lathe!
