Rear Brakes - How long.....

Chaps,

Through circumstance, I've had to get some work done on the GS at a garage other than my normal choice (usually use McGrath). I used these guys for my Merc and they're good.

I'm having new discs, handbrake shoes and a handbrake cable fitted. I'm not a mechanical genius but from past experience when I used to dabble, the disks/pads/shoes are not a big job...assuming it goes relatively without a hitch!

Roughly speaking, do any of you have any idea what I should be expecting to be billed (hours)? I've provided parts so am expecting it to be labour. Is it 2 hours? 4 hours? 8 hours? More?

I have my own ideas but would like to know what you guys reckon (best/worse case)?

Cheers

NB, I don't expect to get bummed, they're a good outfit, but would like to know what is a reasonable amount of time for the job.

Also, my cable had been fiddled at before, some damage done to pivot point, so ensure they route it correctly so it doesn't chaff like mine did, I'd suggest you get under car when they are done to be happy with job

Yep - rear cable, disks, pads and handbrake shoes.

So opening bid is 3h 15m....thanks Frank.

I'd say 3-4 hours was fair with the right tools. As long as the pads fit and there are no solid fasteners.

Woodys going to another garage Can, if any way competent, should be pretty decent with this sort of work

Just to conclude this, it was 4.25 hours to replace the rear disks, pads and handbrake shoes/cable.

I think they did a good job but will pop it in to McGraths for a quick once over - you never know.

Sounds more than reasonable when the handbrake stuff is included.

A little on the long side I reckon, but not too far to feel I'd been done dry from behind. As long as its been done properly I reckon it's ok.

Guys
My mechanic changed all my discs, pads and shoes in less than 2 hours. If it takes 2 1/4 hours to fit a cable ???? Then I suppose all is ok?
Would say quite long to be honest but I suppose what hourly rate is charged is more to the point.
Neil.

Aye, done now and the car is back to good health so bills almost (almost!) get forgotten.
