Random Q's about a new Granturismo....

Hello everyone,

After about 10 years since owning a Maserati the itch has finally got the better of me and on the verge of trading in my M6 GranCoupe for a 15/16/17 auto Granturismo (i.e. post facelift).

Could I ask a few random questions to help me decide what age car to get - it's not as simple as older is cheaper as the residuals on a well priced newer car often mean the increased monthlies are negligible. Plus a couple of spec questions...

Firstly, would the 12m warranty provided on a 15 plate car from a main dealer be exactly like the manufacturers warranty on a younger car or should I be dubious?

Secondly, has anyone experience of the carbon steering wheel - my concern is it looks great but is it practical i.e. would it be slippy? Good or bad?

Thirdly, if I get a younger car with manufacturers warranty remaining, what happens when it expires - can I then extend? If so, is there any reduction in cover, and any idea of rough annual cost?

Fourthly (is that a word!), any ballpark figures on what a service costs (big and small) from a main dealer, as my benchmark is way out of date.

My thoughts are that the sensible money is on a low mileage 16 plate car as it's already depreciated further plus will have up to 12 months manufacturers warranty as protection. Budget is around the low £60k's but obviously residuals & trade-in figures make this a stab in the dark.

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers.

...oh, and also (fifthly!), can the official external carbon fibre bits be added at a later date, or is it not that simple?

I can answer the carbon steering wheel. I have driven a few with one a never found it slippery. It was no different to the wood ones you can get and I liked those as well. I thought it would have not been nice to touch and like you not grippy but they were fine.

You can add carbon bits but they will cost you an arm and a leg through Maserati. They ain't cheap.

Thanks. That’s good to hear.

Roger, finally decided you have to scratch the itch...

Warranty can be extended for up to 2 years but must be done before the 3 year one expires. It’s £3500 or so. Carbon wheel is a good option to have. Main dealer minor service £1200, major £2000. If I were you I’d go to Marios anyway. It would cost about £800 & £1500 there.

Had / Have carbon on both, only issue is parking in full sun and it gets very hot, so I have an old towel I. Boot to throw over it, other than that, not slippy as previous posters have said.

I’ve just had mine serviced by Maserati (minor service), and it was £1500 inc VAT. This included £140 of labour investigating why my parking assist only works intermittently....

Thanks Guys. Yes Dicky, the urge is becoming too strong, and panicking now that we’ll all be driving hybrid hover cars in a few years LOL. Was going to message you actually to see if you know of any available - your stock has been quite light on them for a while?

Trying to decide between a 15 plate dealer supplied car or 16 plate trader supplied car. Both 1 owner, low mileage (especially the 16’er). Dealer car full of carbon goodies inside & out but currently off radar as it’s just arrived!

Roger,

I sold a lot of GT Sports last year but not had many this year. I am always looking for them and am trying to buy one at present. I’ll let you know asap.
