If I was looking at 2K for x2 shocks Id just go KW V3 coilovers , get them set up properly, fit and forget etc.
Yeah. Or just swap to the fixed rate oem, or MC version.
Although, I assume with either of those options some trickery would be needed to 'turn off' sky hook or you'd have dash lights I would think.

Arent they about £300 though? Bit expensive for a resistor pack !

If SI can map out TPMS, surely you have the car think its got GTS style fixed rate dampers instead of Skyhook

Sadly SI could not delete TPMS from my 2008 QPV when they tried, so things are not always as straight forward as they may seem!

I don't *think* so but, never bought any <shrug>

Hey guys. I probably would have done that had I known it was definitely feasible. However, time was limited as it was booked into a the garage.

Unfortunately after a delay with getting the wrong part and an extra delay on the delivery I am now doing it myself.

So, next question…

I now have the shock loose. How/where do I disconnect the cable? I haven’t managed to find where it goes. I’m doing the rear drivers side.

You have to follow the cable back and it will be about 300 along it. Might need to remove some trim panels to get to it.

Thanks Zep. Is that trim cables in the boot or behind the wheel?

…not to worry, I’ve got it. ☺️

Am I correct in thinking this (yellow connector)? Should have one of these connected? Mine seems to be missing!
Any idea what would be the impact? Perhaps this is why I didn’t realise I had skyhook as it wasn’t functioning??

There's loads of those plugs all over the car. Zep may know for sure but likely to be a spare. What is part three in the diagram above called?

It’s this one. The connector looks similar but could be something else entirely or as you say potentially spare…

003 MPN: 232082
VERTICAL ACCELERATION SENSOR
Suitable for cars with: Skyhook System.

It's a standard connector. I used them on my external speakers for the garden :)

I'd have though you needed that acceleration sensor, but then they did remove some variants of the cars. Later ones I *think* There was a big thread about it in the other place and how it messed with a TCU transplant

Skyhook plug is small and black.

the diagram is for the vertical acceleration sensor, located on the rear LHS of the car.

The yellow plug is a superseal and on the RHS, looks clean and so I’m betting interior light.

Hi Guys,

Had a bit of a delay as I was missing a strut nut tool or offset spanner.

Sorry, this is the first time I’ve done this so I have another question. Can I reuse the ball joint? Appears in good condition other than being a little greasy.

Do I need a special tool to do it or do they pop out with a bit of a pressure?

Easiest way is with a hydraulic press or use two sockets in a vice.

I wouldn’t reuse it. They are cheap from the likes of Superformance.

Hmm, no I’m doubting it but I really didn’t think I did.
It definitely looks more like the skyhook version but I thought the 4.7 mc-shift came with it but the auto didn’t.
How do I check without jacking up the car and taking the wheel off?
Do you see anything in the console to indicate skyhook? I’ve never seen anything to suggest I have it.
Other way round. Find a rough road and see if the ride hardens if you press Sport. FWIW lots of MC Shifts have skyhook too as a cost extra.

All done! Thanks for the support guys.

Had to order a new vice, strut tool (I didn’t have an offset spanner that could reach the nut) and it was a great shout ordering a new bush. Wasn’t the easiest first time but would definitely consider tackling again now I’ve done it. Saying that, it’s probably worth paying a garage a couple of hours labour and saving yourself the hassle!
