From the depths of my memory I think I know this but I'm not going to answer as I've got a busy day today and I'll be out of Internet range (lucky me) to check. So if I'll let it run for a bit....

What do Roland Barthes (French philosopher), Pierre Curie (French physicist) and Antoni Gaudí (Spanish architect) have in common?

For those who do not (already) know the answer, here are a couple more of zag's names in the same group:
Margaret Mitchell (author of Gone with the Wind) and William Huskisson (former MP for Liverpool and former President of the Board of Trade)

As there are no takers I will have a go, they were all killed in traffic accidents - Cars, trams and trains

Correct!
Roland Barthes - Hit by a laundry van while walking home from a lunch party hosted by François Mitterrand.
Pierre Curie - Run over by a horse-drawn vehicle.
Antoni Gaudí - Struck by a tram and died from his injuries three days later.
Margaret Mitchell - Struck by a speeding automobile, while on her way to see a movie; died five days later without fully regaining consciousness.
William Huskisson - Hit by Stephenson's Rocket at the opening of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway, and died that evening.

Next question will be from zagatoes30....

Ok sticking to the theme of accidents.

China & India have the highest number of deaths through road related accidents, both close to 250,00 per year (China just over, India just under) but which country is 3rd and how many ?

Staggering Stats, a quarter of a million! With a Billion people in each country thats equivalent to 15,000 people in this country.

I'm guessing Brazil as it's populos and quite laissez faire with driving rules...

There is the right answer Brazil is 3rd but with a lot less deaths, just a mere 41,000.

Over to MLC for the next question

On that basis, your spanner wielding is to be feared ;)C

Well, I'm fearful about it, which is why I'm going to have to get someone else to disconnect my battery tomorrow. (While I stand about saying things like "I hope you're not going to charge me too much" and "I do hope my ABS sensor problem isn't terminal". But I will try to keep a positive attitude.)
