Am certain he's alive unless I missed something. Also certain SPK knows the answer regardless.

edit: oops we crossed - sorry Dave.

John Diamond. Nigellas first husband. Died 2000/2001 ish and then she married the throat grabber Saatchi.

<whistles innocently>

What? Me? ;)

C

;)

Can I very quickly ask, whilst DD is in mind, which NBA player was known as DD, aka Dr Dunkenstein, aka Sir Slam, aka Chocolate Thunder and in what way did he leave a lasting legacy on basketball? Not to mention a mention in Saturday Night Fever.

That will do as question, so I am off the hook

Ironically (sorry about this) John Diamond died of throat cancer (in 2001). He wrote an (unfinished, but good) book called "Snake Oil and Other Preoccupations" about the quackery of complementary medicine.

Did he found the Harlem Globetrotters? (a complete guess)

Nope - afraid not. This is somewhat obscure even for BB fans, which I know is very popular here :), so the chaps name is Darryl Dawkins. Hailing from Planet Lovetron, where during the off-season he practised Interplanetary Funkmanship, he was given the moniker Chocolate Thunder by Stevie Wonder.
Apart from being the first player to be drafted straight from high school he was also famous for:

Which led to what change in the game?

With such an overwhelming response :)biggrin:) time to either put Zag back on the hook or pass over to MarkMas for having offered. Your choice.

The answer, with the number of shattered backboards caused by having a solid ring, the league adopted a sprung-loaded break away system. They also imposed fines on a player & club for every board broken. Even though, as per the regulations, it has always been a technical foul for anyone grabbing or hanging on the ring. Except where avoiding possible injury. Has tended to be a rule that everyone ignores though.

With no word from Zag, here is one that will be declared either impossible on grounds of featuring obscure intellectuals, or too easy as it is always being asked in everyone's pub quiz. :)

What do Roland Barthes (French philosopher), Pierre Curie (French physicist) and Antoni Gaudí (Spanish architect) have in common?

Even I know this one - and I'm a thick-as-pig-**** sports nut  Good question though.

FFS! As I think I may have said before, I had no idea this was (also) a well-known question - I only stumbled across the information by chance today, while looking something else up.

There are loads of others can be added to this list, and you often find them grouped in unusual groups like this in many quizzes
