Oops - how do you write 1.5 in English

http://www.numbertranslater.com/en/how_to_write-1.25.html

How do you spell "101"?

https://www.easycalculation.com/convert-number-to-text.php

Taken from "Grammar resolved"

Americans say "one hundred one" to mean 101
Other English speakers say "one hundred and one" to mean 101

So technically, both are correct - it just depends where you come from. An English / Australian person would NEVER say or write "one hundred one" for 101.

and
and,(ə)n,and/Submit
conjunction

1.
used to connect words of the same part of speech, clauses, or sentences, that are to be taken jointly.
"bread and butter"

Definition of the word and

So in the example given bread and butter is AND a food stuff or is it just a word used to link the two foodstuffs together ?

How many is an AND ?

So its not a number by any stretch of the imagination.

I never claimed that 'and' is a number. It is, as you say, a word. But you didn't ask for a number, you asked for us to spell out a number [using letters and words]:
1 spelled out in words is "one"
101 spelled out in words is "one hundred and one"

And, BTW, "steak and kidney pudding" is a foodstuff. It would be absurd to claim that "steak", "kidney" and "pudding" were all foodstuffs, but that "Steak and kidney pudding" was not a foodstuff because "and" is a word.

The 1.5 thing as the converter says is just changing it to A word format. Which in that case takes a decimal phrase and converts it to a fraction based phrase instead and lists it as one and five tenths it could just as easily say one and a half or one and three sixths. One point five keeps it in a decimal format.

What the converter is doing is saying the correct way of saying 5 pence is one shilling. Its mixing formats.

The word And is not a number its just a word used to link the hundred and units etc.

Keep trying by all means but you cant find AND listed anywhere as a number or a unit in the English language.

Why would my parents say when telling me off " And how many times do you need telling ? " if AND was a number it would be a statement from them not a question that they wanted me to answer again

This is fun...

No-one is saying "and" is a number.

However, if I was asked to write down (and to spell correctly) the number 101, I would write "one hundred and one". So would pretty much every one else who isn't American.

Your question was: If you spell out numbers in sequence which is the first number that the letter A is used ?

Is 101 a number......? YES

Please spell the number 101...... one hundred And one

I never mentioned using words ! I said
Just for fun question: If you spell out*numbers*in sequence.....

As you said yourself AND is not a number.

I didnt claim steak and kidney pudding or bread and butter were not foodstuffs.

I said that the word AND is not a foodstuff it is just being used in those example to link other foodstuffs.

Im not being argumentative. But the question for fun was spell the numbers not any other words that you may wish to add inbetween.

This is my favourite bit so far:

:)

I'm not. :) you would know if i was.

I'm simply pointing out as you later agreed that AND is not a number it cant be in the answer.

Likewise if i said spell out the foodstuffs in steak and kidney pudding which word would you not spell out ?

Now please nobody mention the fly and a train question

Go on Mark set the next question.
