The Geordie connection helps - definitely the Knopfler brothers, Mark and David. The other 2 founder members I can't remember, but a saxophonist joined them later on. I presume one of the albums would be the iconic Brothers in Arms???

No that was quite a lot later. You're right about the members.

Most of the snippets are correct. Mark and David Knopfler and the first Album was indeed Dire Straits and the second was Communique. Just the Bass guitarist and Drummer to get. Clue: the bassist and Mark Knopfler were the only two to go from start to finish of the band.

Brothers In Arms came around '85-ish so would guess the 2nd album was earlier. I think CatmanV2 has it right. Also, have a vague recollection of some concert footage where a stand in saxophonist overstayed his solo - the looks from Knopfler.

Nb - keep up, keep up.

Alchemy Live I suspect.

If memory serves (which it probably doesn't)
Dire Straits
Communique
Making Movies
Love over Gold
Alchemy Live
Brothers in Arms
Something?
On Every Street

Not 100% sure about Alchemy / Brothers / Love and there may have been something else before On Every Street.

ICBA to Google, but probably totally wrong :)

Saw Kiss at Donnington '88. Not great to be honest. When Stanley shouted out "Do you want to hear some more" there was an audible No. LOL.

Zag has it. Mark and David Knopfler, John Illsley and Pick Withers were the original members. Your go.........

Picture the scene - Thursday, Top Of The Pops, that video, phhwwoorrrrrr.

Next morning at school, double Geography, more fun talking about the girl with long legs . Happy days.

Took a few more years to understand the lyrics mind you. The innocence of youth
