They say it was the first roduction line but I have my doubts, Adam Smith wrote about the sub-division of labour in the 18th Century, but no doubt that's on another forum somehwere on t'interweb.

My question is in America what was a 1979 Mitsubishi Gallant Lambda known as, there's two possible answers so I'll accept either.

A cr4p car also known as a really cr4p car. :)

I have no idea on this Martin. Was it sold as a Chrysler or something.

I used to live in the US ( but not in the 70s) and I seem to remember that several of the European / Japanese brands were repackaged under US specific brands.

As such, I'm guessing this was almost certainly packaged as a US brand, and if it's not a Chrysler, I'm going to guess a GMC

Correct, the shame of the Dodge Challenger's past was the fact that it was built in Japan by Mitsubishi, good job Vanishing Point was made before this occurred.
Your go Andy.

Ok on a similar theme there have been other times that the Yanks have taken a foreign model and tagged an American name to try and convince customers to give up their hard earned dollars. So who knows what the foreign equivalent of these are?

Plymouth Cricket
Cadillac Catera
Mercury Villager
Pontiac G3
Chevrolet Nova 5th Gen

The only one that rings a bell with me is the mercury villager. Which was a Nisan mini van. I think it was called the quest but was sold as a Ford in the USA.

Other than that i have got nothing for the others.

OK maybe some help required. Both the Plymouth and the Cadillac were based on European cars and the Pontiac & Chevy were based on more Eastern models

I should know these from being in Mexico, you see some hybrid cars out there.
The Chevolet Nova could be a vauxhall corsa... I think. The early corsa in UK became Chevolet Chevy...

Having watched a US equivalent of Police Camera Action last night I do believe that the Cadillac Calera bears a remarkable resemblance to a Vauxhall Omega. Are Cadillac a GM company?

There are various Chevy euro versions the Chevrolet Chevette for instance, I thought that was a bit too easy, but not in this case. Its a version of the Eastern arm of the GM gene pool
