QPV Adaptive headlights

OK this is on my list of jobs to tick off if I can. It's gone from a fairly intermittent fault to pretty much on all the time now irrespective of whether the lights are on or not.
At the last service, the garage informed me that the diagnostic kit was pointing the issue to the drivers side headlight unit.
Looks fairly straightforward to take the unit out once the arch liner is out.
Has anyone had one of these apart on the bench? I'm hoping it might be a dry joint or stiff/seized pivot/link in the internal gubbins - or just a loose wire.
I did notice that the wiring connection to the near side unit is different so I don't know if one of them is master and the other is just slaved off it.
Any tips or guidance welcome :)
Cheers

Watching this with interest.

All I can add is:
  • nothing is ever that simple with the lights
  • my adaptive feature stopped working when i replaced the Ballast unit on one headlight (To fix a main bulb not working due to water ingress)
  • in the end just had to bite the bullet and get a new headlight.

But good luck anyway - I hope you are more successful than I was!

Maybe I'll start simple with just checking for corrosion on the connector plug 1st then. :)

Does anyone know if there is a steering position sensor somewhere in the mix. I assume something must sense steering input movements?

A sensor? More like a piece of rusty wire hidden away somewhere. Don’t worry, neither you, me, or any one else will know if that bit of wire was supposed to pass electric or push and pull something else that is broken.

If it’s just the one light that’s not working it won’t be anything to do with ride height or steering angle sensors.

No it's both lights. I get a dash message 'adaptive lighting not available'. When they work they both work fine - then the message pops up and they both stop. So it's possible it's an input issue or if one drives the other then a control issue??
If it's possible they're sensitive to damp, I'll definitely look out for connection/corrosion signs first.

there is likely a sensor on one wishbone, which measures the relative height of the car. This is used for the self levelling feature. Not aware of any steering related function, but then mine is 2006 QPV and things pop move on.

correct (not confirming if it's actually on the Wishbone as I don't know, but it's close to the front suspension and on the passenger side). Mine was recently replaced - was damaged during rust proofing ! Cost about £120 for the part

I didn't get any dash messages, but noticed the lights were pointing a bit low when driving on B roads with rises and drops.

The SM had headlamps that turned I think?
Yes quite a few of the Citroen's did back then. The DS range and then the CX range and yes the SM too.
Mine's an 09 QP GTS, but doesn't have the TPMS (that I'm aware of!!). When it works, it's quite impressive if I'm honest - especially on unlit winding country lanes at night. The annoying thing about it not working is the persistent flashing message in the middle of the dash display that is trying to compete with the 'adaptive parking assistance not available' message. This pretty much renders anything else that you could normally read on this display useless - it can't get a a word in....AND you can't acknowledge, cancel or turn it off.
