I guess like you say, the Saloon seems to be less desirable, and I guess the feeling is, if bought at 22k and average 5k miles over next 3 years, what will the return be.

How is the replacement Maser BTW?

It's not arrived yet, but it's all ready for me and is having a final clean at Emblem later today.

They are coming to pick up the 400i next week (it has starting issues - in that it won't!), so the plan is for them to bring the GT-S with them when they come.

Hard to say, but I've only ever seen one GTS at under £20k, and that had done 100k miles. So I'd say the value will still be in the region of £22k give or take. I'd say that most QP V cars (apart from the very last face-lift ones) have pretty much hit their plateau.

I remember the silver QP DS I had a few years ago. I bought it for £15k and ran it for a year or so before selling it to Phil for £15k. He then ran it for a bit and sold it on, again at £15k. So even though it was getting older and the miles were going up, the value stayed constant. Though that car needed the annual service, and would need a clutch at some point. Whereas the GTS has two year service intervals and no clutch - so is a cheaper car to run, as well as being better to drive and more exclusive.

Ewan's at £22k ain't going to lose much money with 5k miles pa over the next few years. If I wasn't in my GTS now I would have bought it. I'd even consider a swap for the 3200 plus cash but Ewan won't want that headache :D

Maybe, I just think I voice what the "idiot on the street" ie "me" thinks, Has 2 doors too many for me all though I guess i could do a QP and a Cayman, now there's a thought.......

It's probably the best short term ownership option on the forum. Maybe rossyl could start his business by buying this!

I agree with Phil...Can help think that this will be the one QP model that will buck the tend and go up in money eventually and with Ewans being one of a kind on a desirable colour at 22k it seems like a no brainer. If it was mine it would be a keeper. I have always prefer the drive of a QP over a 4200 and maybe even GS. Don't know why but ever time you put that big body into a bend and it handles beautifully it always brings a big grin to my face.

If I didn't have my QP & was looking for one I'd be in there. As I have my QP it is much more difficult. Is Ewan's GTS worth say £5k more over my Exec GT. Very similar miles, history and owners. My variators have all been done....Ewan's haven't. It is not a obvious smack me in the face decision to part with maybe £5k on top of my Exec GT for 4.2 QP GTS for a car that is not worlds apart of different.

Thoughts on a postcard?

Yep the QP handles so well for such a large car.

In my opinion... no.

In the opinion of many Maserati buyers out there... yes
Small model changes seem to retain a LOT of value in the Maserati world, and put simply, the GTS is more desirable than the Exec GT.
More extreme example of course is 4200 (especially facelift) to GranSport... Add 10k and get virtually the same car ;)

Nothing stopping you Eb

I don't think Ewan would want my "common or garden" black one in return :) ... and if his isn't flying out of his garage for 22K then mine wouldn't sell anytime soon either! And I have a real problem getting rid of cars. Can't do it. I haven't had many as I keep them until they get driven to the scrap!

Much bigger difference, at least mechanically, between the GTS and non-GTS QPV versus a 4200 and GS. The QPV GTS has fixed rate dampers and uprated brakes. It should absolutely sell at a premium, just like Speciales, Scuderias and CSs command premiums over their standard versions. Or Strads vs. GT Ss. Generally, if you want an even better version of a great car you have to pay a lot more!

Wonder what the cost would be to put the Bilstein's and springs on my Exec GT? Anyone done it to a QP?

Yes, been in both and a GTS QP is worth the extra...and for me more than the 5k and with time the market will see that and more.
