Hello all, I've just been reading through this post regarding my old QP. Just to let you know I'm not Chinese and I'm pretty sure the guy that ordered it wasn't either.... To be honest the pictures make the red look a bit funny. In reality it comes together really well! I usually stick to black interiors but when I saw this in the flesh I was sold. I appreciate it may not be to everyone's tastes though. Regarding the car its been fantastic but I've just committed to restore an early 911 so funds are needed, if anyone wants any details send me a message.

Good shout Alfie.

Must say if I was Chinese, I would have regarded the earlier remark as rather 'generalising'. I think the QP Sport GTS is one of the finest QPs produced (both in 2008 and 2009+ versions). I actually prefer the fixed rate suspension to the skyhook.

I have owned a 2007 QP Sport GT for almost 4 years and have not found the auto transmission to be sluggish. It helps to get a factory reset of the gear shift mapping, as this can adapt to previous owners' driving styles and not deliver the power as and when expected.

Having said that, I recently added the Formal Dynamics DBW and ECM, and this did turn the car into a real beast with almost linear acceleration.

Alfie, how did you find the GT S....For me a great looking QP ... It was def the best 4.2 Q1P from the reviews I have seen. The red, as you say, may look better in the flesh....I'm sure I saw this car for sale before as the red is something you don't forget.

It has been a brilliant car, soon after I picked it up I went on a 3000 mile trip around the Alps, on the run down it was comfortable and refined and then when we hit the mountains the character changed with a push of the sport button and flick into manual mode.
The gearbox suits the car very well, I came out of a Porsche Cayman that was a great car but sometimes you need a bit of soothing rather than racing everywhere! The Porsche gave an experience that for the 20% of the time I was wringing its neck it was great but for the more mundane 80% it was a little cramp and uncomfortable. The QP is the other way but still very good when I wanted to push on a bit.The suspension is really sorted and the bigger brakes are awesome if expensive for pads etc. On the whole its been reliable apart from tyre sensors which had expired. As I said before I have a few old cars, including an OSI and a 68 911s which I want to restore so can't justify the QP as a daily driver anymore. Shame....

Was it like other 4.2 QPs/GranTurismos in that it would still kick down in manual mode?

Yes it does, the only time it happened to me I was going up the back of the Col de Turini, coming off a hairpin I put my foot down only for it to change to first. I was a bit more progressive on throttle application after that. Again in general driving including some pretty spirited stuff the gearbox is really good, I know it may not be quite as exciting as the automated manual system but it is also a lot smoother when you want it to be. I got stuck in a tailback getting out of Monaco that lasted for 2 hours, a lot of it was stop start on quite a severe gradient, I wondered how I may have faired had not been in the auto...

Thanks for the reply. I noticed it on my test drive of a 4.2 GranTurismo and found it really annoying. The 4.7 engined cars do not do it which I find much better as you can floor the car in fifth or sixth at 40 or 50 in manual mode without it kicking down to second or third.

Strangely the road tests make no comment on this, even in Evo which I find surprising.

To be honest Bob I only really used manual mode when I found myself on a quiet twisty bit of road (not often). I don't think I've ever been in manual mode and just cruising, always left it in auto.

Yeh, I think it depends on how you drive. Most of the time I drive mine in Ice mode as it is plenty fine for normal traffic and gear changes are kept to a minimum. Nice road and it is sport manual but I have always driven manual cars on the torque curve so like full throttle at low to medium revs.

That's interesting Bob, driving in "Ice", never thought of doing that in normal driving, must give it a go..!!

Ice works well on auto gearbox cars. Not sure how well it would work for normal driving in a CC (?).
