QP Confusion

Don't get excited, from what I remember all it does it put the car in 2nd gear much sooner. (only used it once as my car is a garage queen).

More than that - changes through all the gears at much lower revs, doesn't change back down so readily, disables kicking down for full acceleration, and has a different engine map.

nice info.
My 2006 Sport GT fits that profile pretty well, and I am well chuffed with it.

The sport button does indeed have an effect;

  • holds each gear up tot the red line
  • Does an extended bli[p on donwshift
  • Stiffens the suspension for roll and pitch
  • Makes exhaust louder (unless it is just my imagination)
I am interested to know what differences were made to the exhaust.I am considering updates next year and wish to avoid duplicating changes already made.

can the sport mode be engaged at any time and does it change anything regards to exhaust?

Exhaust thing could be placebo

Absolutely any time...

No valves on a standard QP exhaust, but you could add them...

Maybe the exhaust just sounds louder, espeically when you let it rev right out.
Anyone else noticed the shift at 5000 rpm? Feels liek itcomes "on cam" and rate of rev rise increases along with a harder exhaust note. Guess a new fuelling map might be introduced with sport button.

No worries Rob; however, not going to be in the UK (except flying in to the London office in the week) much until February, so not doing any shows in January, and I'm at the Geneva motor show on the same day as the March ACE meeting... Should be at the April meeting though!

Be good to meet up - I will be doing some days in Stevenage, so there might be an opportunity there. Can't be that far from you, and from there I drive up the A1 to Lincs.

off topic:

I love the sound of car in 1st gear but is driving @4k revs for up to 10 secs bad and I've read that when downshifting never go to 1st rather 2nd and let the car find 1st itself?

I hope not! 4k rpm has been seen for hours at a time on mine, granted not held in first gear :)
I really don't see 10s being an issue. Likewise dropping into first - why not?

not sure other forums mention its bad for gearbox but how can it be if the car naturally shifts into 1st itself when slowing?

IN answer to the OP
If you have a late 08 or early 09 pre facelift car then the spec choices were slightly different to what's previously been said
If it's a ZF auto then you could order:
Standard QP
Sport GT S
Exec GT
And for that year it's last in the duoselect
Standard QP
Sport GT
Exec GT
So it could be either still but the gearbox will give it away
The key "tell" on the GTS is the 6 pot brembo front brakes which were not an option on any other car and standard on the GTS and also the GTS has standard suspension not the skyhook adaptive stuff
Alcatara was standard on the GTS but full leather could be optioned so isn't a solid indicator
You should also have body coloured door handles and no chrome on the door surrounds if it's a GTS

The door surrounds are rubber, it is the ZF transmission, all leather, no sure if the headlining is black alcantara or "suade"?

Regards to the pots on brembos can these be counted visually?

Just checked there are 3 "humps" on front face of caliper, I guess these are the pots and will be 3 on other side?

Yes but each brake caliber has six Pistons, three on each pad on each side of the disc
These brakes were unique to the GTS for the model year
On th later facelift 4.7 S and GTS were fitted as standard and an option on the standard 4.2 entry model
Do you have body coloured door handles and black surround to the side windows? Like in the link sent earlier in the thread?
I have an 08 GTS almost exactly the same as the link car but with cream/ light tan full leather (black upper door and dash cappings) and a black Alcantara headlining and yellow brakes with the dark silver 20" wheels
The colour combo is subtle and very pleasant place to be
As to the sport button, I drive in London a lot and find that for this the higher revving and gear change points are too much and make progress jerky and a little laboured, I am sure the exhaust sounds different when pressed but it could simply be the mapping and higher revving that gives a different impression
If it's a GTS 08/09 its a rare car as howmanyleft.com seems to think only 40 or so were registered
Personally I prefer the looks of the earlier nose and grill and this is the best version of the pre facelift cars
I had a choice of a 09 4.7 S and my car and went for the earlier car with less miles and a brand new engine under warranty
