Passenger window misbehaving

Thank guys. I'll check for damp. The car was for sale for a while but garaged and under a soft cover, which is also how it is now.

I'm sticking with my original diagnosis of the ECU. I can't see why it would be getting any 'confusing' signals from switches on the passenger side when opening the driver's door, or indeed why any signals from the driver's door would confuse the passenger side.

It would be very sensible to check the footwell for damp, as suggested :)

Thanks guys. There's one for sale from a spares dealer in the US for £27 (+ shipping) - the listing states that they won't ship outside of the US but I'm trying to find a way around that.

I've just been cleaning the glass and noticed another window-related problem!

The glass on the driver's side isn't meeting the black rubber trim that joins the rear window - when the window is fully up there's a gap of 5-6mm. Is there likely to be any left-right adjustment of the glass on the runners inside the door??

So, I've ordered a window ECU from Ebay from a seller in the US for £27 plus shipping (and probably import duty). Worth a punt at that price so will let you know if it cures the passenger window issue.

There is a bit of adjustment in the metal runners that the window slides in to get the glass lined up properly, it sounds like it would be enough for the problem you have there. Take the door panel off and have a look it not a big job!!

Update on my passenger window issue...

For all of you who said it would probably be the door microswitch rather than the window ECU, you may wish to say a very loud 'told you so'.

I got all manly and got my new socket set out this morning and set out to replace the ECU this morning with the one I bought from the States.

After much swearing (these cars don't give you much room to work in) I managed to swap the old unit with the new one....

...and the passenger side window problem still exists.

I felt a certain satisfaction at carrying out the replacement without breaking something else (or ending up with bits left over), but wish I'd managed to cure the issue.

Now that I'm feeling brave I might strip the passenger side door card when we get the next sunny day..

...that'll be in 2016 then no doubt :)
