I found myself staying in the same hotel as the Jaguar Owners of France club tonight. Glad I put Doris in the covered car park as I had a perfect excuse to check them out...I'm sure there'll be a few wistful memories of some of these little beauties. Plenty of XK's and XF's in there too.

Mercure President in Grenoble. A bit of a 70's concrete block, but most of the town is that way...the only really beautiful thing here is the mountain views.

The drive into town is great...but I bet the drive out is better! I knew I'd need a stop for a few days to get some work done, so I looked at wikitravel and Grenoble seemed to offer touristy things, mountains, good restaurants and a bit of night life. Just didn't realise what a modern place it is, and wish I'd carried on for a few more hours or gone over to Aix-en-Provence or somewhere similar. There's no real sense of history here.

Anyway, gotta stop whining, I can think of worse places to be.

The red tape round the cars is a bit pretentious don't you think?

Nice cars though.

An XK is high on my dream-garage list. Great to see some well looked after Jags there, Chris. Thanks for sharing and enjoy the rest of your trip.

It looks like the tape is there to stop the other users of the car park nicking the hotel's spaces, Matt - it's shared with an apartment block and that part of the car park is full, but the hotel bit was empty when I arrived

I can't remember the architecture in Aix but it is a fun town because there are large universities there. Chambery and Annecy are pretty towns, although north, out of your way.

There are loads of great roads south of Grenoble. You can do a bit of research here http://www.bestbikingroads.com/moto...es-inc-lyon--/route-napoleon--n85-_5dd90.html

I had breakfast with the man who founded the club this morning, they have been going since 1971. A lovely guy, has a few Jags including the soft-top e-type with the hood up in the pictures above.

The club are on one of their grand tours, Grenoble to Aix-en-Provence down the Route Napoleon, a three day drive stopping a few times on the way, a total of 2000km if you include the drive down from Paris & back. I got some photos of them leaving together, I'll post them later in the day.
The sound of some of the cars was lovely.

If I remember correctly classic cars are very restricted in France. Classic policies only allow a certain number of days per year and some of them have to be on organised club rallies.

We don't know how lucky we are in the UK. Sometimes we bemoan the lack of empty French roads but in the UK we have cheap a second-hand market and great classic policies.
