Does this new phone let you phone people and let people phone you ?

In true iphone fashion it does but usually drops the call at the important part or sounds like you are talking through a fishbowl. Great to see they have kept things consistent over the years!

Apparently they have made £ and $ prices the same, so that's another immediate 25% margin, thieving ba5tards. I'll stick to Samsung.

Except that 20% of that difference is VAT. Don't let the facts get in the way of a good rant though

The price equates to over $2000 over here!
An unbelievable price, we can get a 60" LCD internet TV for less!!

The forums over here are full of all the same sort of comments -priced themselves out of the market etc etc. There will be the usual pre release bundles sold to contractors giving them pretty numbers to start with but I bet the price will get reduced or additions added to the bundles to lessen the price effectively when they see they aint selling.

Good luck Apple I'm sure you'll get some blinded brand loyalists buying into it but I bet far more will give up on you.

They are undoubtedly lovely pieces of kit, beautifully made. I've tried one of the iPhone 6 (I think) and have to say I was impressed.
Got to hand it to them with the way they can persuade people to feel its a must have and they should pay top dollar. Wish I know their secret!

I just happen to be a long term Samsung user and the only thing that pisses me off with Apple is the continuous myth about Samsung stealing Apple ideas as if it's a one way thing.

iPhone X has OLED screen, wrap around full screen, wireless charging and no home button - Great. All things I have had on my Samsung for ages.

That's without this ad which came out when Samsung were having success with much larger screens when Apple told us we didn't need them....

Wonder how that went?

My daughter has a 6+ , I got her to put some stuff on eBay for me with it but when I reviewed the pictures I had to delete everything, everything was the wrong colour, a pair of brown boots looked grey , took the pictures again with my S6 and the colours were spot on , Samsung phones have a really good camera

I set my email to manual so that makes me check it every now and then rather than it pinging me all the time. I also get a company phone (iphone 6) and it is 2 years old and the battery is starting to weaken. I will probably go 8 plus next though as I want something a little bigger and more pda like. Will see what the reviews of the 8 and X are like before deciding though.

£25 for a new battery or £1000 for an upgraded phone...

If you keep upgrading the phones to the latest iOS version supported, eventually they will become too slow to bear and you will have to upgrade ...
BTW, I installed iOS 11 on my 6 and battery life is now half of what it was ...
On the plus side, I now have a very nice looking hand warmer

What is the battery life on this new Apple phone? It is the only thing that is a big issue it seems on most modern smart phones. I struggle to get a day at best out of probably the last 3 phones I've had.

We can put men on the moon but can't make a phone battery last more than a day. Crazy.

Probably crappy too.
The "plus" models have 50% more battery capacity due to it's increased size which ends up lasting more but on the downside you get a huge phone

This is the business model, which unfortunately for the true 'followers', keeps the fire in their pocket lit!

That and the software support stops after 2.5 years so an upgrade is forced to an extent. Yes you could still use an samsung s3 or apple iphone 3 as a phone but app support. The nokia n8 was a great phone solid daily device but symbian was dead in the water 12 months aftet launch.

Did I see its $900.....What a waste of money....I don't get that for a phone....but then I am one of those who think a phone is for talking to people and that's it. They destroyed conversation....Only have to look at the supply driver room in work...15 drivers all sat waiting with their heads down looking into their phones and not making conversation like people used to....people picking up children from school and ignoring their kids as they are txing......Remember when people had to talk to each other face to face....

So OK I remember when my 'mobile phone' weighed in at 3.5Kg - so like many on here have seen the rise and rise of the mobile phone / social (?) media devices and lament the lack of understanding shown by todays youth of the term social or indeed sociable.
The other thing I lament is the change in business pricing.
Originally stuff got made, there were costs for materials and development, people got paid wages, and in the chain from manufacturer to punter a bit of profit got added but essentially the pricing was 'cost plus'
Now we have a new business model, which involved target and discussion groups and panels deciding the maximum price that can be extracted for a product. hence the Apple iPhone X at £999........ and Apple will have worked out very carefully the number of their customers who will say 'enough is enough' - I dropped out at iPhone 5 - and the pricing is a balance of those who will pay and those that wont yet pay.
Its a funny old world :rofl5:

Land Rover and Range Rover have done exactly the same.

Robin,

I recall my dad replacing his radio system in his car with a phone mounted on to of a briefcase...I remember making my first call on it...I must have been 13/14 at the time and thinking whats the point?

I had the same thoughts when shown basic programming of a BBC micro making some mouse move around a maze in my last yeqr at school...took all lesson and again I thought whats the point.

So the next time I am shown some new tech I may try a different tact.

So I have a Samsung S3 where the camera only shoots macro (I've replaced it twice after the original camera malfunctioned and causes some sort of error). The battery has been replaced because the first one was getting weak, and all that I needed to do was open the back and put a new one in. I have added a 64GB memory card for my music. Unfortunately it tends to reboot from time to time and especially if I have switched on GPS and fire up google maps.

Don't really want to consign it to the scrapheap, but probably should do.

What do I replace it with?
