Its the rear tie rods on mine that are corroded - at £10 each its a no brainer replacement from eurospares, I will do them when I replace the brake lines - interested in the Goodrich replacement hoses, where did you get them from? £88 from Goodrich website - do you need anything else? banjo bolts, washers, seals etc.
Also going to replace the front handbrake cable - the bit from the lever to where it splits - my handbrake only just scraped the 16% MoT fail despite replacing just about everything.
The rear subframe is not too difficult to clean up and mask off - if I can get the car high enough! might treat that to a rub down and hammerite or similar paint

Feeling a bit happier as I've had it up in the ramp and had a good poke around. Yes there is a hole bug enough to put your finger in bit with some expert welding, it is fixable.
I'll treat the rest of the subframe to a wirebrushing and repainting before it goes in for the retest. Thus will include the rest subframe too.
I will be at Chieveley services meet for the Silverstone classic!!!;)

Looks like you want a good brush off and some underseal whacking on Martin..!! Try and get that rusty junk out of the hole and squirt some stuff in there..!!

Robert, any recomendations on 'stuff'?

RSM, (Sir!) I've come across mice eating insulation on cables and then trying to eat the copper but not the finest Italian steel!

Not sure if the picutres give justice but the bushes could do with replacing and 'EVRYEONE' recommends polymer bushes. Has anyone come across a source for maseratis?

I think they do cans of Waxoyl type stuff and it would not harm to have some protection in there..!!

That will be that well known tin worm rather than mice or as we used to call it

After a bit of filing away of the corroded area, a coating of rust convertor to the inside of the subframe, a nice welding job, followed by smoothing off of the weld.

The MOT man said 'Yes'. :alan4::alan4::alan4::alan4:

So all is now good, so it's on with the seam sealer followed by a good painting of both subframes, next week.
