Failed on the Offside front Sub-frame corroded and seriously weakened. Just looked at Eurospares and then retail at £946.15, not had it on the ramp as yet but I'll have a look tomorrow.

Not best pleased...

Common complaint on QPs too, sorry to hear that

Had similar problem in same area on my QP, as have others on here. It's only a chunk of (poorly) welded up square section steel in the first place... Had mine repaired by Shiltech, so assuming there is good steel to weld to, there's probably no reason you can't do the same to yours.

Depends on how much needs doing and critically, where on sub frame.

These were not protected in any real way against corrosion.

Wow I'm surprised, I knew things were a little rusty underneath when I've been under my 99 3200 but I didn't expect a later car to rot through a subframe. I was only talking to someone about how good they were underneath too.

Just given my QP a good going over, removed all the rust and treated with rust converter and then a good covering of body wax and all the cavities pressure treated, hopefully mine will never rotimage.jpg

I had a look myself last week, checking over bushes and the general condition of the underside and to my and a motor fitter's eye it all looked ok. Till I get it back on the ramp, I won't know how severe the issue is, but I'll upload some photos tomorrow. Thanks for the responses and the cheaper options. I feel a bit better.

Takes quite a few hours to swop out Martin, if you go down that route.

Its a Maserati weaknees, built in or not, not great on a super/prestige car costing £60K, that £5 worth of protection at build stage could prevent this happening

I take it that the engine mounts onto it? Or could one get away with supporting the body/engine and remove the sub-frame, wheels etc?

I think this weekend all 3200/4200/QP/GS owners will be looking under theirs!

Not sure of all details, more the suspensions bits and bobs.

Its been known about in QPs for some years, and a couple of years on 4200, not sure about 3200

Given the Autoshield team have recently spent a lot of time under my car changing the whole exhaust system including manifolds, I'm going to assume they'd have found anything untoward. The engine had to be lifted off the subframe to change the manifolds - would anything suspect be obvious at that point? Not that I'm paranoid or anything, but I might make a call to Marios tomorrow!!

Mark, mine only became evident when my mechanic used the T junction to jack up on, ie the strongest part, it just caved in, you can't truly tell from outside, it corrodes from inside out.....fingers Xed!

Ouch - that's bad news, I must admit having spent several hours underneath the back end of my 3200 recently on handbrake cable replacement duty, I did notice that although the sub frame doesn't look too bad some of the shorter parts ( I don't know what they are called) didn't look too good - still solid but obviously rusty and some flaky metal, Mot guy said it was fine - I did notice the solid brake lines looked a bit suspect

Yes just had the front to back solid brake lines replaced with copper pipes as mine were totally corroded. Also did the Goodridge replacement of short hoses while was at it.

I did had all the brake lines done on the Spyder as there were showings signs of wear and were picked up as an advisory on the MOT just before I bought the car from Matt. They were 13 years old so better safe than sorry, also had them fit braided hoses.

Emblem picked up that the underside needed some treatment in the pre-sale inspection and I had them reseal it before collection. They didn't mention any issues with the subframes so fingers crossed not an issue, yet!
