With all this talk of BL cars I decided to get my Rover Vitesse Twin Plenum out and take a few pictures.

Needs a few little bits and bobs most notably a headlining and a new steering wheel but pretty good otherwise.

So here we go for those who are interested!

Lovely stuff my Uncle was recently given a Twin Plenum Vitesse and has had it repainted.

I must admit to this being a bit of guilty pleasure car. I've always loved the shape and it seemed so exotic to a young lad in the late 70s. The bloke next door to us had one (thought not the 3500) and it was so much more interesting than the variety of Renault and Fiats my dad had.

That's rather splendid! I've had a couple of SD1s in the past - a standard 3500 auto and a Vitesse like your car. Really comfortable :)

Always admired these, in all their guises. Very tidy looking and will undoubtedly turn heads even today.

For a while I had a hankering for a MG ZT 260 but good ones are rare , I had a 190 in 2005, it was black with blacked out windows , I never drove it in Manchester in case I got shot at

Cracking car, Robin. I have an unhealthy affliction for these, although only owned a 3.5 VDP with a manual gearbox for a while. In fact I love most of your BL cars, so please, please buy a Jag XJC next and I'll enjoy them all through your ownership!!

That's not unhealthy! I loved my 3500S in moonraker blue with 5 spoke alloys on 25mm spacers, smashing car, loved the looks and that Daytona Spyder swage line down the flank. I was only 22.
Bought is successor later in life 820 Vitesse, 2 litre turbo, very quick but it ate 2 head gaskets, caught fire twice! Utter dog sh1te

Forgot to say love the XJC pillar less coupe, I could have bought one for next to nothing at one point, they are well out reach now

Well I did try and buy the Steed XJC but the bidding got silly!

I love those old Rovers.
The SD1 was the police's all time favourite patrol vehicle. There's YouTube footage of the police racing down the m11 into London with a live organ somewhere. Great stuff.

My dad has one of the first v8 Sd1's, P reg I think and a second v8 Sd1 T reg, then moved over to v8 4 door Range Rovers from 84 onwards.
When I think back as a kid, they were both shockingly unreliable. The second one required a full respray at 2 years old! It was white, and he was quite trend setting having the lattice alloy wheels sprayed white at the same time.
Preferred the Triumph 2.5Pi he had before the Rovers, and why I bought my Stag as my first car when I was 19, now nearly 30 years ago...how did that happen!!

What on earth were they doing with a Wurlitzer on the M11?

always loved the fact that the vent in the middle of the passenger side dash was the hole for the left hand drive version steering column, they just lifted the clock binnacle and moved it to the other side!
