Calling a black player the N word Dem is a racist IMO regardless of different laws, it is a horrible word and should never be used. It is like me calling someone a polish ********* or pakistan citizen a p**i *******. To me that is racism and if i said that, i would be known as a racist and would be in serious trouble with the law and suffer a punishment.

Calling someone that when "back at home" means "my little black friend" is a different matter! He never knew it would be taken so harshly, he admitted in an intervoew he called him that as its normal to call black players that in s america, nani said he calls evra that!!

Its their culture to....the word mavro in greek means black but its how they refer to them, its not racist of my family in cyprus to refer to a black person as a "mavro", my dads neighbour who hes known for 30 years is black and my dad doesnt know any better, he still refers to him and also im front of him has banter as he calls him "my mavro friend"! Its how they are of a certain generation or in certain countries! Jphn terry hpwever no excuses

Here's another thought; if the shortening of someone's country of origin is racist ie P**i, why isn't Aussie or Brit a racist term? Or, how can the Metropolitan police have a black Police Officers Association where the only qualification needed to join is the colour of your skin? How would it be received if the White police officers wanted to form a White Police Officers Association? It's called positive discrimination apparently and always favours the non caucasian minorities. We seem to have forgotten that racism goes both ways, or is it because we have been brow beaten into believing it doesn't? The loony liberal left have totally screwed us, we haven't a clue what is racist and what isn't so we always err on the side of caution so we don't end up in court and as a result, people are unduly sensitive and take offence far too easily. BTW, I'm not defending racism, I'm stating facts, just in case I've offended anyone by writing this. It's all bollox.

Discrimination is evident every where......................but for the 90% natives of the isles...who feel discriminated against in other more subtle ways, they can't don't want to see the reason for it.
If I called a mate an Irish C***T......sure its not racial abuse just added invective to the slagging of same....carries no weight means nothing......
But for those who feel removed/disenfranchsied/vunerable.....they get a modicum of protection

What if a Brit called your mate an Irish C**t? That would be racist abuse. I agree with you that it shouldn't be, but it is. A good friend of mine was a detective sergeant. He went on a touchy feely course and was told that if two coppers were telling Irish jokes and a member of the public overheard them and complained they would be suspended pending investigation into race hate CRIMES. Consequently, they are walking on eggshells just in case they somehow offend someone.
