For sure, go to the John Rylands library, a stunning building with lots of local history (like Pies and Hotpot and Flat Caps and Whippets! )

Just walk around the town centre, make sure you have a 'confident gait', drink bitter beer, and absorb the culture of the best city on earth that is only lacking a beach.

Southern Shandy drinking puffs (like Martyn) can go to Canal street and feel at home...

Umm emmmmm. ..

I'm overwhelmed, underwhelmed, shocked and delighted by your suggestions.
A few hours in a 'parlour' with a Whippet and an attitude sounds reasonable.

I asked the taxi driver to bring me somewhere to waste a few hours. I'm not sure he understood my accent, I certainly didn't understand his. Either way, we 'went up road', and ended in in the Intu Trafford Centre. Well Holy ****. It makes the goings on in Sodom and Gomorrah look like an episode from the Magic Roundabout! It's epic. And not in a good way.

I remember when that was all fields!

That is not Mancunia but a plastic northern Bluewater...however you're not that far from Old Trafford... get yourself there and admire the wholey owned stadium of Manchester United...

while your at it, remind them they have not won the European cup as many times as the real reds down the road
