Hopeful Buy, New to Forum

Hi All,
I'm new to the forum and to Maserati but am thinking about buying a 2014 GranTurismo Sport. The one I've found has one owner, looks in great condition inside and out and only has 15k on the clock. Chassis number checks out but . It drives well and sounds wonderful. However...I'm concerned about the engine and engine bay - it looks older than 7 years / 15k miles to me (although I'm far from an expert), and has a fair bit of rust. I think it's mostly surface rust, but like I said, I'm no engine expert.
If anyone has a point of view, thoughts, advice or guidance on what I should be asking the seller884838848488485 I'd be really grateful.
Cheers,
WillS

If it’s like that in the engine bay, I would think the subframes and suspension components would be worse. My 15 year old GS looks spotless. I would walk away.

Covers off, soak with TFR, detailing brush, jet wash, dry with an airline and finish with a dressing and it will look like new, trust me, I do it at least once a week.

Appreciate your input - I was going to ask about the subframes and get them inspected.

Love your optimism! Thanks for the advice, will ask the dealer to look at doing this.

Looks to me as if the car must be up north or Scotland and seen a bit of winter weather.
As Matt said some good cleaning and detailing they can look mint.
Totally agree about a good underside inspection though.
Good Luck.

What’s the bodywork like, been painted recently? I noticed rust on the bottom of the inner wheel arch (where the metal ends and the plastic skirts and lower bumper begin) on a low mileage newer car. Indicated to me it had been out a lot in the salt. Underside inspection would be key.

Welcome, Will. Where's the car? You may well find someone on here happy to have a snout around it and offer an opinion on person.

Bodywork is near perfect with no visible or tangible signs of painting, interior is in likewise terrific condition. That's why I was so surprised at the condition of the engine bay. I know the car hasn't covered more than a couple of thousand miles over the last few years - maybe it was last used on wintery / salted roads and wasn't cleaned down??

Thank you. The car is in Enfield, Essex. The dealer has very good reviews and has offered to get the engine bay cleaned up and professionally treated.

Not too far from me. Might be able to take a gander depending on where and when.....

That's extraordinarily kind of you - thank you C. I'll ping you a separate note later this week. Is this community always this thoughtful??!! If so I think I'm going to like being part of it :)

Yeah, we're pretty much like that around here. You have to put up with the thread drift. Have you seen @Felonious Crud 's kittens, by the way? And, then there's the general sarcasm and conversations about razor blades, but nearly everyone is welcome ;)

Oh and apparently @Zep has been doing some welding on garden furniture.....

The latest kitten in the Wanderer family, I believe it's a Maine Cöon. Behaves like a dog, loves water, love her to bits!
