I can't disagree, I live on the outskirts of Warrington which is OK but the town itself is done
The problem is within 30-40 minutes is Manchester, Liverpool, Chester, Preston, all of which will have more to offer than Warrington ever will.

I moved here for work, if I could I'd leave tomorrow
I was running a project at Arpley Street Police Station last summer (housing estate across the road from the Golden Gates). I always felt uneasy walking through the estate and always made sure I remembered to remove my identity landyarn!!

Will take a look

I went to Namibia about 15 years ago and would love to go back. It is generally very safe, with friendly people. Has great wildlife (especially cheetahs), and may options from basic camping to luxury lodges. Also incredible scenery: dunes, 2nd largest canyon in the world, etc.

I haven't been to Botswana but would love to. Also seems safe, welcoming and attractive.

South Africa very varied, with some parts (The Cape, Durban) mostly safe and relatively pleasant. Jo'burg and Pretoria very unsafe and dodgy. Good wildlife, of course, but you really have to go (I feel) on a well-managed tour to a proper reserve, not just drive around and do your own thing.

If you think Warrington is bad you ought to see leigh

I needed some cash at 5am on a Sunday morning, the machine in the garage on the A580 was broken so I went into leigh

I was at the cash machine waiting for the money to come out when round the corner was what sounded like one of those wild West fights getting very close

The cash machine was whirring counting the money with me shouting come on you b@stard at it

Got in my car ASAP and left as fast as I could

We are thinking of South Africa in October this year, so any tips would be most welcome.
Thonga Beach is pretty special, the coastline is amazing and we drove as far up the coast as possible and then got picked up by a 4x4. It is in the middle of nowhere, not far from Mozambique. The iSimangaliso wetlands are nearby.
We also went to Makakatana Lodge near St Lucia (where hippos roam in the streets in the evening).

The Drakensberg mountains worth a visit if you like a hiking adventure.

Thats food for thought - any plans we have will involve fully arranged and supported tours and luxury hotels - no camping (however posh) lodges a possibility but again safety the main concern.

Ps we were in SA in October 2018. It is lovely in the mountains because it is Springtime. We saw literally hundreds of humpback wales heading South at Thonga Beach.

Have a look at the Shamwari game reserve in the eastern cape in SA. We had a great time there.
Plus some time in Cape Town, and a few days in the wine regions just outside (Paarl, etc.)
All incredible value while its 23 Rand to the Pound.

Off to Florida in two weeks time for a week then a week on a cruise in the Caribbean with my new partner. She has never been on a cruise before so it is going to be very special. I've done it all before with my late wife but really looking forward to this one.

We did a self drive in Botswana last year (see start of the thread) fantastic. We are doing the same in Namibia this September. Plenty of companies will sort a great itinerary for you.

God I grew up in "the Port" it was dire in the 1960s. I haven't been back in 30years.
Me too! Lived there from 68 until 90 in Stanney Grange, then moved to Great Sutton in my first house. I always try to avoid the town centre like the plague as it just depresses me. It would be full of tumble weed if the ground was fertile enough to grow it in the first place!
Where about in the 'Port' were you spawned??!!
