Just had my 4200 which is due for an MOT on the 28th and its failed emmisons test. Could anybody assist in to what it might be?

I realise this isn't the best first post!

Are the CATS actually there lol? With a reading like that I'd expect either the centre cat or precats are not actually there and there is a straight pipe there instead :)

You have two options

1) Order some replacement cats OEM parts (costlier option)
2) As Chris says order some 200 CEL precats from one of the usual suspects (Larini etc..) which SHOULD get you through an MOT.

From that invoice it looks like the garage were asked to completely strip the internals out of the cats, effectively leaving you with nothing to manage the emissions. Depending on your budget you can buy some sports cats ready to fit from Larini - they won't be cheap, but also won't break down internally like the OEM version and are also cheaper than OEM. Otherwise you could buy some weld-in sports cats and have an exhaust shop fit them for you - probably the cheapest option.

Or take it to the same MOT place the previous owner did...may get you by for the short term if they 'pass' the car.

The chaps I bought the car off are going to sort it for me and they've guaranteed an MOT in hindsight I should have looked into that invoice more but if they can at least get a 12 months ticket on it that sorts me for the short term

If this is a main dealer car or any dealer for that matter it is their problem not yours, please take it back and have them sort it out.

As a former UK Mot tester if the garage do the repair correctly and the testing station test it correctly it should last a long time.
