I love the GT even in 4.2 guise... but what I have seen and know from those in the trade is that they do not wear as well as the coupe due to having a 2 year service scheduled and a harder initial life as well as a less sympathetic owner group.

Yep spot on, what with Variator troubles too it is a case of buying a good one not just a cheap one!

For many cars the two year interval is a misnomer as the autos are bought to be used and the cars often get to the 12.5k mile interval before two years is up. Anyway Porsche has existed for years on 19k/2 year and, yes, we read about some issues but they are not the norm.

I guess as the buyer group widens then many owners will see them as a three year commodity but that makes Maserati try harder and means they must adjust to the reality of what the likes of BMW have operated within for years. The Ghilbi will further develop this.

These cars are reliable though. Mine is 4.5 years old and is on 33k miles. The only warranty claim of any merit is a new a/c compressor.

Think one is a cat car and the other is a bit ropey when you phone by all accounts. It still feels like you need 45k for a good GT S. Although the odd bargain does come along but there seem to far and few between.

Well there's always the varying definitions of 'good' innit :)

If the Alfieri is announced (yeah right!) and only then when it is released and orders actually taken will cars like the GTS start to come down to silly levels.

Have to say that the ownership experience 2ys and 12k miles in has been brilliant for me. I had provisioned for some big bills that just haven't materialised and the car has been superbly reliable and as worry free as the many Porsches I have owned over the years. Hope I am not speaking too soon.

The GT still looks a very modern design which must help values and looks seems to appeal to a wider audience than cars from the past.
