not used the GS for some time now but been on charge on and off. Anyho tracker renewal and run diag to find possible fault. Been offered updated replacement for about £600 but would preferred to keep it original.
I've requested senior diag support to call me to see if the good old switch it off and on again will work. I know it has backup battery hence why asking for him to call me.

I'll update this post with progress but would be interested to see if anyone had there unit replaced as the norm is not use them.

Will be good to hear how you get on, when I called Vodafone they said there could not get a signal and would require a new unit. I didn’t take up the £1k cost of installing a new one at the time.

I suspect it’s internal battery has failed, like the alarm siren units do.

Surely you can hack it open and replace it? If it’s being replaced anyway worth a go.

The battery on mine was an external one do they have an internal battery too?

Thank goodness, I don’t think they had to fit any of this rubbish to cars in Sweden. Insurance companies eh? They’ll get folks jumping through hoops and still not pay out.

spoke to the guys, system passed battery test but failed on final diag test. looks like I'm going to have to replace the unit.
one option is a modern tracker with app to also monitor it myself, this will also reduce the yearly subscription. other option is a tracker similar to the existing unit which has no app and has double the yearly subscription cost.

Red: I asked about the quote you got and seems this is for a tracker similar to original tracker. maybe speak to them about the upgrade tracker.

I've also requested info on the upgrade as want to make sure its not a black box for the money making speed plod.

You can also get cheap as chips GSM / GPS trackers. Not going to impact your insurance but might help you get your car back....

Do you actually need / want a tracker?
GPS and GSM jammers are freely available, so there is probably a very small proportion of the theieving ba$tards who may steal your car where the tracker will be effffective in helping recover the car. The low tech ones are probably the type who will do no end of damage to the engine / transmission while they have it so will make recoveing the car less desirable...

if mine was nicked I would not want it back as it would be ruined... and the bustards will probably have done more miles than me!

It seems like few insurers even offer a discount for having a tracking device.

I had mine removed and placed in a box in the cellar for the weight saving and to prevent battery drain.

The subscription was not enabled and was not declared so no loss.

I am considering a Streetwize GPS Tracker for about £45 and credit on the SIM card in case the worst happens. Much smaller than a Tracker so easy to hide away.

When I found out how much Vodafone wanted to resurrect my tracker I decided to go a different route on my GT. I fitted a tracker from gps-platform.co.uk. Wired into the battery with inline fuse and discreetly located. I can't remember how much the unit was but not a lot or I wouldn't have bought it. I pay £4.50 a month for the maintenance of the GPS platform and with the phone app I can check the position of the car at anytime. Worth investigating as I have had the unit fitted for a number of years and it works well.

That website seems dead?

I will check my details and come back. All seems to be working OK including the phone app. Thanks CV2 for flagging up.

been given the option of the vodafone S5 tracker with apps and cheaper yearly cost or the new version of navtrak ADR v10 tracker but no app and the normal yearly charge.

talking out loud
i'm in two minds which one? I would like to keep it original but like the idea of the phone app.
