Hi All! I'm new to the forum but not new to car forums! :) After 4 years of Alfa Romeo Brera ownership i have now decided to take the plunge and jump across to another Italian Marque. The car of choice is a Gransport - Firstly i would like confirmation that i have indeed picked a cracking car to go after, but mainly i am looking for buying advice. Are there any differences between 2004/2005 models vs later ones (asides from road tax....). What should i look out for when buying? All help greatly appreciated! Thanks, Stefano

Yes you are looking for a great car...as am I.

Its all down to budget re the best car to get. £18k will get you an un loved one, £32+ for a perfect low miles one.

Full leather commands about an extra £2k above Tech Cloth.
HID Lights are rare.
Bolsters tend to wear.

items to watch.
Service History should be spot on
Recent clutch wear which matches the miles since last replaced ( an be forged)
Alloys are prone to damage from pot holes
Service history
Stone chips are to be expected
most have upgraded exhaust or at least one section
LE specs give you all the extras at a one off price
cam covers can weap
avoid light coloured dash tops tbey reflect the sun onto the screen
Service history
Oh and low miles cars far to frequently miss services

I know I said service history a few times...but a well cared for car commands a far better price and will serve you better in the long run.

Happy hunting.

Hi Stefano and a big welcome to the forum.....I think I may have directed you this way from AO (Andyt350t) while trying to persuade you the TT RS was not the way to go .... ...... I'm sure you will get all the advice you need to find the perfect Gransport for you......Is your Breara a 3.2 ?

Best places to start...Yes PH and Autotrader plus owners cars on her as most are well documented......Put a post asking for a GS and see what comes up...The grey one on PH with beige full leather at 26k is a members off here......

Also a great person to speak to is Richard Grace form on here...He will give advice with no hard sell. A number of members have purchased from him. He is well respected and worth a call....

Exhaust mods.....can be expensive if you go Larini which is about 2k I believe......but there is a Sportsmaserati exhaust in development currently which I believe will be no where near as expensive as the Larini.....Matt and Benny are involved in this I believe....

Good updrades available here as well....Again the owner is known on here....

They're a fantastic car, especially if your intended use is for fun, they're not so great for the commute, especially if it involves stop/start or crawling traffic

the only engine failures i've seen are due to oil pump failure and them being hydro locked, so avoid standing water and a recent oil pump replacement is a bonus

clutches don't last long, even if it has relatively little wear the finger followers can fail so a recent clutch change is also a nice thing for a car to have (budget 2k if you have to do it yourself)

Full leather commands a premium, i wasn't fussed about leather so was happy to pick up a tech cloth car for less money, but that will depend on your preferance

Hello! You indeed started the ball rolling for me down the maserati route. I went and had a look at a TTRS with the mrs and she said 'it just looks like a TT'. That was it for me. After having an extremely unique Brera, i wasnt ready for mediocracy just yet! Have been researching Gransports for a bit now and it is much more 'special' as you suggested.... The Brera was a 2.4 JTDm so i cant wait for that proper petrol sound!!

Hi Stefan,
Welcome to the forum and a great choice of car to hunt for..!! The GS can be a bit hard to come by, but they are around, a member on here has just decided to sell a black one..!! Safrane has given a good representation of what to look for and suggested Richard Grace Cars who is a member and a nice chap to boot..!! Condition, Service History at a Maserati Dealer, or Specialist, is a must, Joe Bloggs Garage is not good to see stamped in a service book..!! Get an independent inspection done, it will cost £200 to £300 and is well worth it, a list of Independent Maserati Specialists can be found on here, just put it in to search and it will pop up..!! If you need advice just ask, we are all here to help where we can..!! HID Xenon lights are an attractive option to have..!! Exhaust....dependent on what you want as extra's, you can pay £4K to £5K for such as a full Larini System new, or there are others about including some being built by the forum at the moment and you can find used equipment from time to time..!!
Best of luck..!!

e

Standing water is no joke. In the terrible weather at the end of last year/start of this year. I had to do a very embarrassing 3 point turn on a narrow A Road. This also involved getting 2 cars to reverse backwards to give me room to maneuver. The best part of the story is that i remained in the drivers seat while the wife got out to check the depth of the flooded road and ask the other drivers to reverse!

ADG has a lovely black one for sale at the moment with cream leather and black tech cloth which really suits the car. It has been spoken about lots on here as it was a bargain but needed work doing....so you will pay dealer price for it but all the bits that needed doing will be done...I think if has a Larini exhaust on it as well.......

The other black car at ADG is a beauty, I sold it 6 months ago, belonged to James who was always on here. As clean a Gransport as you're likely to find.
