I've just had a search, engine numbers lower than 148697 are those which are at risk as they are the engines without the modified variator fitted

If it help people with timings, my car was built mid 2011 and has an engine number around 175,000.

My 2009 has revised variator engine, can't remember exactly but I know it wasn't that many numbers after the magic number

There is no correlation between the build date and engine number.

I think it's probably fairer to say there is *some* correlation. But the engines were used in both the QP and GT so would have been take off the line to go into either model depending on how fast each was being built. At a guess they probably weren't used strictly in number order as well. There would be no real reason to.

No idea. Don't even know how many were made total.

Personally my take away is just that you need to check the engine number, and rely on nothing else.

How does one check the engine number? Is this listed on the car'S documentation, or do you need to physically look somewhere on the engine?

Moderately sure it's on the V5 as well, but could be imagining it.

Yes, the same as if you carry out a colour change. I 'thinks' it can all be done via the V5

A quick bump in case anyone missed this post and is interested, I am very keen to sell.

I've been out in the car today and what a joy it is, even after 10 days of no use - the longest I have gone without driving it - it really is a great place to be.

I've spent the day waiting for someone to come and view the car who saw the ad on PH. Not even the manners to call to say they can't make it - the joy of selling a car privately!!
