Stu - if I was in the market for a GT MCS at or below £40k, I'd certainly buy yours privately at £35k over most dealer cars at £40k - warranty or not. Yours is well sorted and the £5k difference would be money set aside for future maintenance. Get it on PH before winter really sets in, and it'll sell.

Now listed on PH @ £36,250.

Needless to say the forum deal of £35k still stands

No problem at all but still near as **** it £40k

So how do you want me to phrase it? Pedantic for no reason. Anyway 20k less miles, 2009 not 2008, dealer margin, cost of a warranty - factor them in and then do the maths. When someone who buys and sells these cars for a living (Dicky) expresses a view on value there is a high chance he is right.

Excellent debate here guys.

I agree with much that has been said and I know that people prefer to buy from a garage for the warranty & peace of mind but this is why I had it serviced a little early and replaced all of the tyres so that there is nothing at all mechanically that needs to be done with the car having a clean bill of health. I also am keen to sell to move onto my next car which is why I have priced it as low as I have, of course I am making a loss and could possibly hold out for more but I am impatient for my next purchase and feel that there is nothing to hide with this car.

If it sells soon at this price then great, this is what the car is worth but let's see. Right now, only you good people on SM know about it but I will list it on PH, probably tomorrow night, at a slightly higher price and let's see what happens - then we'll have a better idea of what the market is doing. But of course I hope to sell it to one of you good folk on here!

I think its a great price for a well sorted and looked after car.

I can't really work out the market at all. When you can get Stuart's for 35K and some 4.2s with similar miles selling around the 30 mark. They are cars on different planets aren't they?

The 4.7 is worth more than the 4.2 but many people work to a budget (£30k is common), some want the brand/looks of the car and the 4.2 is sufficient and some don't want the automated clutch car for it's drive style and clutch replacement costs (look at the prices of DS QPV). However on the forum lots of people don't understand the difference between how you price retail, private and trade.

I would have no problem buying off a forum member and can see that this car has had all the spend that could come up already made but so many people just want a warranty, finance etc etc.

My 2p worth.

The majority of buyers are not part of the forum or car scene. If they do any research at all it will no doubt be peppered with poor reviews of flappy paddel cars and so a full auto looks more appealing, is 20% less does not carry the 'perceived' risk of clutch failure...and is 500cc going to make that much difference to them.

I suspect as the MCs move into the lower 30s the 4.2 will drop to high 20s

The full ZF auto has variator issues though. Do all GT's suffer vatiator issues regardless of gearbox so same issue regardless?

Agree with all of that. The only issue with values might be a lack of supply of new for a couple of years helping to drag all values higher. I am still really liking mine and can't think of anything to replace it with for now.

Why do used GranTurismos seem to cost approaching twice as much as similar spec used Quattroportes, whereas when new they are only about 15% more expensive?

It's not a Maserati thing in particular more that coupes and convertibles have better residuals than saloons. I don't agree with the 'twice as much' comment more like 20-40%.

It's down to when the particulr was was fitted with the modified variators, regardless of the transmission option. It can affect all GTs up to a certain engine number which I don't have to hand just now

Engine number is the key to checking as some affected engines were used in 2010 and 2011 cars.
