While all the speculation around how dumb it must have been to run aground and how simple it ought to be to fix this is fun, in the end it is more reasonable to assume that the people actually involved probably know more about what they are doing than most of us.

Do you remember when Donald Trump said it was so obvious that they should dump water on Notre Dame from the air like with a forest fire?

Facebook is normally full of "experts" :)

It's a strange instinct that we generally feel that the average bloke in the pub (or on FB or SM) can see an obvious solution that the trained experts are missing. At best it results in a fun chat, at worst it results in your dumb drunk buddy somehow getting elected president and suggesting injecting disinfectant to cure corona.

Are there any other saddo’s like me who were disappointed to find that their Ship Finder app does not show ships around the Gulf of Aden, Jeddah, Cairo etc?

Well they use to squeeze these container ships into Latchford locks with just 2 tugs, no room to fit the tugs in the lock with the ship so they had to get enough momentum up to slide her in with the rear tug acting as a brake and then the tugs went in the smaller lock to reattach the other side. Spent many hours as a kid watching them do it with less than a foot each side and the biggest liner, Manchester Challenge aptly named, touching both gates with bow and stern.
