Highway robbery is good and alive over there then?

I'd agree it is time for 2nd & 3rd opinions before you commit to anything, reading back it sound's like they don't know but they are happy to swap enough items till they fix it by accident! As long as you are paying they'll keep that up!

There isn't anything on these cars that is that complicated, if you have even a modicum of ability you can dive in and save yourself a fortune...

Since they did not include in the quote the ABS ecu, coil and any of the DBW components, most likely they will swap all those items and the car will behave the same :)

Exactly why the Engine ECU? There actually are some detailed issues out there with 3200's and coil packs causing ECU issues if I remember correctly, let me see what I can find.

I assume ECU 1 is engine ECU and ECU 2 is the ABS ECU.

Get someone who knows what they are doing on it.

If you need help i reckon we could source and fit most of those for you at a fraction of the price mate.

It hurts just by looking at that quote.
$1500 for the actuator gear is just laughable...

I still cannot figure out why they say the engine ECU is fried when your car seems to be working perfectly with the exception of the ABS and the misfire already attributed to the faulty coil.
I also find amusing that they say that the ECU is fried yet they rely on the diagnostic data generated by that very same ECU that says an O2 sensor and a coil is required.

In short, you are dealing with thieves there.
Run away fast.

I wouldn't be going to them for the work, my local Indy did his time at Maserati and Ferrari and I trust him completely. He actually told me he had one of those actuator gears floating around somewhere he can use, I don't think he wants $1500 for it either.

As you said with the ECU…..I agree, if the engine ecu is fried the whole car is likely to be stuffed……I told him that and he just said "Im just a service customer man, not a technician….."

That sounds very knee jerk to me & hugely inflated figures too, for me a second & third opinion is a must - good luck Tim

As usual most of my parts will come from Eurospares, they always seem to be pretty reasonable, with the exemption of the actuators I saw the other day…..having said that I have had a few pm's from people who tell me they can re-build them and also, there is an identical Alfa Romeo part that bolts straight in? I will keep people posted

GS is a variant of the 4200 and so yes has a different pot. I have been working on a contactless pot for the 4200 but first prototype was not right and i ran out of time, will get back to it (it can be done)

Hi, thanks for update. I await your development progress.
