Engine temperature warning light

I figured I'd order the lot Newton guessed at, which would save a bit of time after it's been pressure tested.

The figure came to £66.66! For some rubber pipework! lol! I'll wait and see where the leak is first!

Mind you, it's nearly as ridiculous as Audi charge for that Adblu water!!!!

Well I tried to get a full set of silicone hoses made for the model and indeed I have silicone on mine but It was a no go at the time, I should re-visit it at some point but finding the time is my problem.

You will have the same issue as me if you want to do them yourself, big hands and small spaces! the small hose under the plenum took me nearly two hours to remove! and all of the ones down the back of the engine you are doing blind!

Wrong side but check the pipe to the bottom of the expansion tank. You have to move it to regas the aircon and it gets worked loose after time.

It's probably the rad though, maybe the remnants of that tyre pierced it?

I replaced my expansion tank just before Christmas as it was actually leaking along the seam. It's unlikely to be the cause of all that loss, but might be worth a check.

Ive checked it since I filled it up this afternoon, and the puddle has evaporated. So no more leak.

To me, this would indicate that the leak occurs when the engine is warm, which in turn would point to possibly rubber expansion.

Will run the engine on the drive tomorrow and will see if I can locate where the water is coming from.

MY radiator split in the autumn 13 and it would leak only when cold and sealed up when hot! so I would have to re-fill before using it after it was parked up a while, most peculiar.

I was looking at the prices of parts for the 4200 on eBay when I came across a chancer selling a door seal for £400 delivered , I thought he's added a 0 on until I looked on eurospares £622+ vat

Pricing up tyres I came across some in the correct size called Uniglory Passions , they may as well have called them death on a bend , the name inspires the same sort of confidence.

Well that's confusing.

Warmed the Maser up on the drive. No sign of any leaks.
Jacked it up for a better look. Nada.
Took it for a spirited 30 minute drive. Diddly squat.
Left it 20 minutes to see if anything came out. Zilch.
All the time when driving the temperature stayed steady. I wonder if it just ran low on water and the water in the garage may have been from when the car got wet on a drive, and spillage where I topped up the rad.

Confused.com

Think I've also found a slight oil leak, although that may be from where it has been topped up with oil.
I can see my OCD kicking in when the weather improves. Everything in the engine bay will get cleaned so that any kind of leak will be detected easily.

Possibly not, I would still think it has a leak. They can vary depending where and what is causing it. Mine was nearly impossible to find, sometimes I could drive 300 miles, nothing! Other times a 10 mile round trip the expansion tank would be 1/2 empty. It did not seem to follow any pattern. Simple leaking fittings, or burst pipes are easy, it's the ones that are the oddballs that are hard to track down, in my case a split O ring in a thermostat housing. One thing though depending what type of antifreeze you use, you can sometimes follow a trail of dried coolant which may help pinpoint it.

I think you're right. It must have a leak. To err on the side of caution I've put a large bottom of water in the boot, and will check on a regular basis.

Hopefully the pressure test will find out where the leak is.

Just out of interest, do you have zenons with the washers, mine dripped out of the near side wheel arch in the forward corner until the header was below a certain level. It was the tubing for the washer on near side headlight.
Know you said definetly coolant.
My Passat has done a similar thing, totally emptied coolant header tank, filled it up then ran fine for 2 years then did it again. Still not found the reason!

I think the water loss is what Newton had. Just checked it and there a rather large puddle from the front of the car.

It looks like that tyre that damaged the body work has also knackered the radiator!

FFS!
