On my old E60, you used to:

Push away to set or accelerate
Pull towards to decelerate
Push up or down to pause
Push button on end of stalk to resume

Much better than the Italian design - both my Alfa and Maser are the same and don't support the pause/resume as the control stalk only goes up and down!

Don't know about the others but the 4200 CC stick had:

roll on/off on inner ring to activate CC
outer ring roll on to set/increment + (2kph per roll) hold roll to increase cruise speed/hold extended resets cruise speed at released speed
outer ring roll back to decrease increment - (2kph per roll) hold roll to decrease cruise speed/hold extended resets cruise speed at released speed
end button to resume

In addition you could manually accelerate and lift off it would automatically resume cruise
touch brake = immediate cancel

Same as the GT and Granturismo.

Well I say that. Never tried the extended press stuff

Thanks to all who explained the boot option - never used it but nice to know.

Audi, BMW, Merc, JLR etc all allow cruise to be dis-engaged and then re-engaged much more easily than on my car.

Yeah it is simple on my wife's BMW - way better than on a Gran Turismo.

Then again, the noise, the sound etc etc etc etc :)

My Audi has cruise.

There's a button on the end of the stalk to set, up to increase speed, down to slow, push away slightly to disengage, pull back to reengage, away fully to switch off. It's soooo much better than the GT.

The button on my fob won't release the boot on the GT without setting the alarm off so I have to unlock the whole car and use the button on the boot. The inside button works. There was a thread which explained how to set it from the menu in the car but that didn't work!

The wipers are a bit of mystery. As far as I can tell (and it's not clear from the manual) is that all the way down is the least sensitive setting. You also need to remember to turn them off and on again otherwise they don't work automatically.

by the way just to let you all know, as I've seen a conversation about this elsewhere on the forum, my sport mode stays on when I shut down the car so if I left it in the sport mode it will be active when I come back to it. I'm pretty sure I've seen people claiming it wasn't staying on in their cars.

another little gripe I have is the fact you can't preprogramme speed dial on the car stereo - I have to go through menus to go to call log and select a number there.

Also emailed FD regarding the valve control kit - got a response thats it would be $230 inc shipping to UK but when I asked further whats included in the kit and how to fit it (i.e. diy job?) then they haven't replied yet... anyone got one fitted?

I believe Marios @ Autoshield has fitted those kits and will be able to help you out but I don't think there's too much involved

It might be the 4200 thread you were reading. Some of the 4200's will remember the last setting after a restart. Others default back to normal mode if the ignition is switched off. No obvious reason why as even cars in the same MY range differ. I did wonder if it was tied to the memory seat settings but that not the case either.

Really? What reg is your car??

It is not possible!!! I have searched so hard. It always starts in normal and in auto.

Mine stays in sport as well. Auto, clearly, but it won't give you the key if you don't put it in P :)

Interestingly the difference between Sport and Normal on my GT is enough that I take it out of Sport due to how taut the suspension becomes.
Rather spiffing. Now if only it was here ;)
