coupe of newbie questions

so picked up my GTS today and drove it up back to Edinburgh and its amazing - for such a big car it handles amazingly well and the noise....

but got couple of questions - did a quick search and can't quite find the answer (still to study the manual...)
- can wing mirrors be folded automatically when car is shut or do they only fold using the switch on the door
- does the passenger seat also slide forward in the easy entry mode? Mine only slides a little bit - should I perform reset procedure on both seats to fix it?
- I'm annoyed that display doesn't show selected cruise control speed - I have to move the selector to increase but don't know how much I'm increasing by until it gets up to this speed and stops accelerating... My Audi used to display what speed CC is set to, Merc does the same actually.
- whats the procedure for setting up the mirror dipping function? Selector is set to Left, reverse is on but mirror doesn't dip - I've got memory seats....
- how can I enable boot unlock using rear handle in the boot lid - currently can only unlock it using button on the dash or the remote.... is it possible at all?

Thanks guys! Mirror folding is the main one for me as I got used to both Audi and Merc folding during locking.

I don't believe the fold when locking...seems odd as most modern cars do.

To set the parking mirrors you need to have the ignition on but not started, select reverse then position the mirrors where you want them, then store by pressing M on the seat control and your choice of setting 1 or 2.

for the trunk, sometimes the rubber switch gets stuck in – try to pull it out a bit if it is. otherwise, it might need a battery reset and a door lock/unlock cycle.

Only folds using the switch. It is not auto. This is really annoying!!

Try a reset. It doesn't slide that much though! I struggle to get a fab big enough to get a toddler seat through the gap.

Sorry don't use cruise control. It scares me.

You need to adjust the mirror to your liking when in reverse. Then push and hold one of the setting buttons I.e. 1 to memorise it.

Yes it definitely is. Try a power reset. The button needs to be pushed quite hard and for a couple of seconds.

Enjoy the car , hope you get the little character traits sorted easily. I'll look out for you when I'm over that way.

It looks like all of your questions have been answered but they probably won't all be to your satisfaction. But remember you have one of the best sounding & looking of modern cars, these are really minor niggles which shouldn't put you off the experience. It's not an Audi or a Merc but on balance, it is so much more and does everything else so much better anyway so enjoy!

And have a good read of the manual too when you're sitting in the car, it really is not as difficult to grasp as many people on here make out!

Good news, in order:
-no
-yes
-it's a poor system and also can't be moved out of cruise without braking or switching it off. At least you have found how to display the digital odo! If you want bad then try the auto wipers - worst I have ever used!
-set the mirror where you want it in reverse then save the memory
-can't

I'm over the water but am in Edinburgh most weeks. Post some photos and I will keep an eye it for you.

Out of interest, how else would one need to take a car out of cruise mode?

I may be lucky only having driven sub-standard cruise equipped cars (not meant facetiously!), but they all worked that way - cruise stops when you touch the brakes or turn it off :)

I had to use the wipers the other day too, and the auto function worked fine.

(My car's a sport, so I think a little later than yours...I wonder if they tweaked some bits...or they get worse over time :D)

The boot should work from outside by default. As an earlier poster noted, the rubber weatherproofing could have become stuck.

This happened to me. Works fine now, but I think there's a menu selection as well about unlocking the boot buried somewhere

That's right, it is with the parking sensors, auto door locking etc - all explained in the manual ;-)

Boot sorted, it was rubber cover that wasnt seated correctly on a switch, pulled it out and reseated back in the whole and you can hear it working now and boot opens fine.

Another thing I cant get my head round yet is the size of these doors!!! They are soo long! Has anyone put a small black rubber edge protector/guard along the edge at the widest point? I think it should look alright on a black car and blend in....

The doors are huge. And heavy. I daren't put protectors on. I may nail some carpet to my house.

Yes all a bit frustrated especially when you are used to German efficiency.

Then again, nothing looks or sounds like a Gran Turismo, so I can forgive these minor irritations. ;-)

On most other cars there is a function to de-activate cruise and then re-activate it later. On the Maser you can only do this by braking.

It's possible the auto wipers have been improved. One function other brands have is when you move the switch to increase the auto wipe sensitivity then the wipers will automatically wipe. Not so on the Maser. When I first got it I was not sure which way the scale worked it was that bad.

I thought he was asking if the boot could be opened from outside without the fob which it can't. In fact I am now not sure what was being asked!

I've never had a car that you can pause the cruise, but maybe they were all cheap. You could also do it by pressing the clutch, though.

The auto wipers are dire on mine. I would happily turn them off. Which way *does* the scale go? I genuinely don't know

And the boot *can* be opened without the fob. Mine doesn't work *with* the fob, but the external button works fine, as I believe the OP now knows

Also has anyone replaced parking lights bulbs with LED that doesn't throw the error on the dash? Had a quick google but so far no firm recommendation for a T10 led that would be error free on Maserati...

Thanks to all who explained the boot option - never used it but nice to know.

Audi, BMW, Merc, JLR etc all allow cruise to be dis-engaged and then re-engaged much more easily than on my car.

How do they do it? I'm curious as I didn't see anything different on the A8. Clearly I never read the manual :)
