Coolant Loss

Had a bit of a fright today, car was playing up this morning, it did not overheat but temp gauge crept past the vertical a few times - it was a 2 hour crawl into work through town though. Water level was fine - I checked before I left.
Coming back tonight temp gauge did the same thing a couple of times, then BANG! big cloud of steam from the bonnet louvre on the nearside and a big puddle of water underneath.
Hopefully a simple split hose but I cant see it from the top, the diagram on eurospares is pretty poor.
Anything else under there that might have split? I know the turbos are there somewhere, not sure if they are water cooled?
No oil (thankfully) only water.
Any pictures / advice gratefully received

:thanks2:

I hope so Dem - and should be a relatively pain free fix - unlike the £170 tow truck to get the brute home! - its finding the right part and getting it fitted having just exchanged contracts today on a house move!

I had a hose split above one of the turbos... Required dropping the front sub frame to get to it. I hope you're more fortunate than I was! I had both hoses replaced and the turbos inspected whilst I had the opportunity.

After much spanner weilding and contortioning arms and fingers the little begger came free, it is the rad hose that feeds water to the turbos , fortunately it is accessible, albeit having to remove a few of the air pipes and its not easy to get back on! Neil the one that split on yours is the other end and that would be an engine or subframe removal.
Special order from eurospares and only £8
Mind you with winter fast approaching (well not this weekend) 5 litres of anti freeze will be required (when I have checked its not leaking)

AA full recovery would have more than saved you a good few quid , i have all my cars covered makes for more a relaxing breakdown, i also pay an additional £70 which covers them all for parts and repair costs up to £500 up to 5 claims in any one year .......................well worth thinking about unless like phil you own your own garage and tow truck

Got European cover with quotelinedirect...or some such for £59

P

Frank, can you explain what that covers you for.

I go to France maybe twice a year, and each time I have to pay £29 to get covered for a single trip. This will recover me back to the UK if it cant be fixed simply on the roadside or at a local garage.

Is your cover just breakdown and recovering off the motorway?

Breakdown Cover

It's difficult to think of a more stressful way to end a journey than stuck on the hard shoulder with a car full of kids and a boot full of suitcases. However, as every motorist knows it's an all too common sight on British motorways. Breakdown cover provides peace of mind and practical assistance when you most need it, but it's important that you get the right cover.

Quoteline Direct has teamed up with one of Europe's leading assistance organisations to offer comprehensive cover for just £59.00 per year. Our £59.00 policy will cover cars, motorised caravans, light vans, estate cars, 4x4 sport utility vehicles and motorcycles. As well as Home Assistance Service and Roadside Repairs we also provide complimentary car hire and help with hotel costs. However, we don't stop there and go that extra mile by making sure that you are covered in most European countries. Other benefits include :

* Full UK and European breakdown cover for any insured driver
* Home assistance service
* Roadside repairs
* Recovery to the nearest garage, your intended destination or home
* Car hire or public transport costs
* Accommodation costs

Click here to buy online now or call 0800 081 3234.

Also Frank , does that cover all your cars at one and the same time , as you know i have 4 cars and all are covered at any one time so long as they are listed with the AA regardless of who's driving them

Cheers Frank, Ill have a look into that.

It does appear though not to include recovery back to the UK.
