Nice work sir, where you sending the engine to be worked on??

Not sure yet I may just do it myself or my local Alfa guy is really good. Heads off, skim, replace, change the shell bearings and fit new water pump and cambelt, that's about as far as I am going with it.

Was going to drop it round Duncan's but he hasn't bothered to call me back.

That's normal for Duncan. Even me, though he has my number saved still have to call him two three times to get hold of him. Not deliberate or rude he is really that busy. Every time i am there no matter what time of day his phone generally goes off ever 5 mins surprised he ever gets any work done tbh. Will call him Monday for ya.

Ok, Nick, can you tell him I want the big and main bearings inspected and replaced if required, heads off, new head set and give everything the once over, fit new belt (it was done 3 years/10k miles ago) and water pump if required.

£price???

Progress, should be ready for Le Mans :)

I have considered it Zag, we are 34 guys / 22 cars with 90% of them being Masers, might want to stand out in the crowd!

I want it done mechanically in 4-6 weeks. I will do the cosmetics after might even do a full respray too.

Talking of Le Mans, did any of you see The Road To Le Mans on Turbo yesterday, I thought it was very good.

No worries there Matt you always stand out in the crowd ;)

This is an old programme about the Creation team trying to get a car ready, even with money it is tough going for a private team but it is an essential part of the event.

Hehhe:
You'll know it when it happens, though. There'll be a bit of a bang, followed by a quiet whimper from an area about three feet above the driver's sea

I had 2 from new, a TS and then a 3.2 V6, I had zero issues with either of them. I had the TS for 3 years putting on 33k miles and the 3.2 for 2.5 years putting 24k miles on it. I still know the owner of my old car too as I have tried to buy it back several times without success.

Great cars, dont believe everything you hear...as with everything Italian, its all about how its been maintained!

I had a 3.0 GTV as a daily around 2004. My wife uses a 3.0 spider as her daily now, and we also have a 3.0 GTV project that's been tweeked a bit. No major issues with any just the usual temperamental central locking and the locks icing up.

Agreed Allan, some minor trim issues and ancillaries like door locks/windows/mirrors/ariels but nothing that detracts from the drive.

The engine and chassis are brilliant and I still stand by the dash in those cars is one of the best designed ones I have ever seen.

They don't even rust, what's not to like!

Right spent the day stripping the engine of its gearbox and ancillaries. Curiosity got the better of me so I descided to whip the sump off and inspect one main and one big end bearing and crank.

Looked ok to me but I don't really know what I am looking at. No grooves or burring and all was very smooth to the touch and the main I would say was worse than the big. It was sort of blackened.

Looks good to me, looks almost new, should have seen the state of my twinny 7 years ago when that went bang! :)

Duncan has expressed concerns about the main bearings.

Needs further inspection to descide which route to go.

The journals look ok to me so a new set of shells will probably do the trick. Personally, I'd do both mains and big ends while it was apart.

I have both shells already. Duncan has explained that he has seen worn mains like this before and the engine did not last long after re shelling. Crank does look good to me.
