Cheap Spyder

Spyder owners together it seems as I agree with Benny.

No way would I compare my Spyder with a Merc SL and neither would anyone else who has been in it. The Merc may be more efficient but it has all the charm and character of a block of wood and any boring old fart can buy a block of wood.

The Spyder may have scuttle shake but other than low speed bumpy roads you don't really notice it. When moving it is fast planted, corners well and sounds awesome. If you want a convertible to put a smile on your face you will be hard pushed to beat a sorted well driven Spyder - you also have the knowledge that everyone else will be thinking lucky bugger a Maserati Convertible :)

My sister had an SL..I borrowed it for a week...Lovely looking car with presence but was like a big wallowing boat......Now the 55 is a different story and great value for money at the moment......and probably a better everyday bet to the Maserati...And I tend to agree with Ewan on the early cars after driving both a 2002/3 and 2004 car........Would I have an SL55 over a Spyder...Never as the Merc isn't a Maserati...Simple really..

German cars are (very nearly) always a better everyday bet than an Italian car. That's why so many people like us find them sterile and soulless. My BM is very fast and pretty comfortable, but never once, after many good hard cross country thrashes, have I got out, walked away, stopped and looked back at it and thought 'I really enjoyed that, thanks'. However, I always feel moved to do so with my spyder.

Summed up eloquently Benny. There is something about masers having a heart and soul that even the most inane of trips is an event worthy of enjoyment.

So true guys every journey in a Maserati is an Occasion.
Came back from Bristol the long way today in lovely conditions my 20 mile return trip became 60 miles.

The Spyder has a great appeal at the right price. But the price has to be right.

It's plain silly to pretend that that the Maser can keep up with an SL 55 AMG. Anyone that that has driven and tracked both will know this. But so what. There is a magic about Masers that Mercs don't have. And that's why we're on this forum having a good old chat.

In that case I must be plain silly, but I'm not pretending, as the last time I followed one through the back lanes to Bowkers, he couldn't leave me at speeds up to 140. It struck me that the back lanes are not its natural hunting ground but on a race track the extra grunt would no doubt wring out an advantage. Still glad I bought the spyder.

I have only dabbled in German cars but they leave me cold in a way that no Alfa or Maserati ever has. Getting there fast isn't everything, getting there with a smile on my face is.
