Look at Volvo, everything included, service, tyres, insurance etc... and you can swap cars every 3 months.

Hi All

I've never leased a car before, but am being asked to help a friend - therefore would appreciate your advice.

Car is required to be
Hybrid or Electric
Latter is preferred
For journeys from London to Edinburgh
Taking 1 Adult and 2 young kids.

She wants to lease as she doesn't want the hassle of ownership.

She does not have salary sacrifice leasing offered via work

I'd be grateful most grateful for some suggestions.

From what I've read, the market doesn't sound great, but she needs a car, so will have to manage with current offerings

Thanks

Hard to suggest without a budget guide - sounds like a hybrid would be the best option to avoid sitting around charing multiple times. Probably easier to fly from London to Edinburgh and leave the EV at home, although the environmentalists wont want to hear that...

At 400 miles from London to Edinburgh she is looking at sitting about with the kids, waiting for a recharge half way.
I agree full electric would be a nightmare on regular long journeys - plug in hybrid might be the way to go.

You can't say that, you'll get somebody painting your house orange with a fire extinguisher.

I saw a video where someone added 100 miles on one of the fast chargers, it cost £18, so not only is it inconvenient it's expensive because 100 miles in the winter is probably 80 real world miles

Clearly full ev is not great for London to Edinburgh.
For hassle free just get a Corolla hybrid.

Hybrid Volvo would be what I’d look at, for that type of family use and journey profile.

I am still waiting to replace my beloved Evoque SE, £290pm plus vat, 8kpa, 35+£2k down deal

Those days seem to have gone

2020 I nearly pulled the trigger on a replacement Velar on same as above for £400pm wish I had now but the red colour put me off.

Even with borrowing rates higher than a few months ago, with her budget she’ll be able to have something lovely. Might not even have to spend nearly as much as that per month.

It’s the fact the lease has doubled that has put me off

Until the supply exceeds demand I doubt we'll see any deals like there were, about 5 years ago I missed a £60k jeep grand cherokee because they all sold in minutes, I think it was £250 a month , saw skoda yeti's for £90 a month, there used to be some great deals pre covid

Thank you
Unfortunately, her budget is £300
So Volvo is too expensive

Anything else
Hybrid
£300 per month?

What do you mean Hybrid? - So many cars have some form of hybrid, basically using the starter motor. Self Charging Hybrid, or Plug In... and of course what range is req and size of the car.

A Mazda 2 is within that budget but its only a pretend hybrid.
