What a day. Six Of The Best
Do you remember Gabriel carried on stage in a coffin?
Sad to say two of the support acts on that day no longer with us, John Martyn and Mark Hollis from Talk Talk.
I certainly do - I was in the front row.

Also, remember Steve coming on for the encore, having flown in specially from Brazil (he was living there with his ex - the mad biatch who sued him for his rights to Genesis, claiming she was the real influence! The others members (that’s as tenuous as I can get to the original thread title!) bailed him out, as he was about auction off his guitars. Anyway, that’s a story for another day…

I couldn’t actually name a Lewis Capaldi song.
Neither could I but that doesn't mean he's not successful, I saw Alex Cornish play in a pub in Manchester before Christmas, he's released 5 very good albums, been on the BBC, written for films but there were 30 people there

It's just getting noticed by the right people, something Gabriel did well with his oddness

^^John Martyn. Epic.
Use to go and and see him whenever he was doing a show in the 80s, within a couple of hours driving. I remember seeing him at the Town & Country Club, circa 86, fantastic performance, think it's on Youtube. Fast forward to the early 2000s and my mate went along to see him at Cambridge, I couldn't go for some reason, anyway he was back home by 9, he was so out of it, he mumbled a couple of songs, insulted the audience and my mate said the show was over. It was a sad day when he passed away in 2011 but not unpredictable, they say he never got over the death of Nick Drake.

I just don't get this sort of fragility and 'whataboutism' - someone mentions a joke about dîcks and cars and suddenly it is "What about fat women?" and "Why can't I be sexist any more?" and "Oh, everyone listen to how I've been silenced again!"

Ok then. Forget about your ‘whataboutism’.
Why is it acceptable to cast aspersions on someone’s manhood, just because they drive a fast car?

The point about fat women was purely for example. But you knew that.

Peter Gabriel and Genesis formed me as a teenager
Me too
I was 16 in 1977, listening to whatever was in the charts or played on the radio, a mate lent me Peter Gabriel's first album and it changed my life, I'd found the music I love today, progressive rock

The only thing that winds me up in the prog groups on Facebook and how stuck in the past they are, like the only prog worth listening to ended on 31/12/1979

It's not fashionable today to say you like genesis, Pink Floyd maybe, they seem to still be acceptable

Some prog I listen to reguraly
Steven Wilson
Porcupine tree
Gazpacho
Riverside
Airbag
Bruce sorn
Anatheum
Dream Theatre
Lunatic soul
Opeth
The pineapple thief
Tim Bowness
Bjorn riis
Bruce soord

Any my latest non prog folk rock group
First aid kit

I know one of them Gallagher t*$ts slagged off Phil Collins, the one with the big eyebrows, I would be rather pleased with myself if I was Phil Collins in the knowledge that ***** don’t like me.
As for Pink Floyd , the amount of times I see on Facebook and they say the first record they bought was Dark Side Of The Moon or Hunky Dory by David Bowie and they expect people to believe them. They're trying to be 'Too Cool For School' lol

Never liked Pink Floyd, don’t own a single thing by them. Same for LED Zeppelin, don’t get the hype, too much twiddling.
First “record” I bought was Live Magic by Queen on cassette.

I like Genesis. OK post Gabriel Genesis, but still.
Is Porcupine Tree prog rock?

C

Don't go there :D(IMO Yes)

Plenty of keyboard instrumentals and very long compositions, I don't think it really matters, though some really get worked up over the definition of prog, if you want to start a fight amongst old men just throw the "what is prog" hand grenade into a conversation on facebook :D

Porcupine Tree are a rock band formed by Steven Wilson in 1987 in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, England. Their music is difficult to categorise, being associated with both psychedelic rock and progressive rock, yet having been influenced by trance, krautrock and ambient due to Steven Wilson and Richard Barbieri's penchant for the Kosmische Musik scene of the early 1970s, led by bands such as Tangerine Dream, Neu! and Can. Since the early 2000s (decade), their music has been leaning towards progressive metal and alternative rock. The band are noted for their multimedia approach, with their live performances including screens displaying a different film projection to each song. This visual element was introduced during the tour for the In Absentia album, when the band started to work with Danish photographer and filmmaker Lasse Hoile. This involvement created a distinctive image for the band. Despite being signed to both Roadrunner and Atlantic labels, the band has their own record label, Transmission, which they use to launch some independent releases and special editions of their albums. In 2007 the band was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Surround Sound Album with their album Fear of a Blank Planet and then again in 2010 with The Incident.

It's not an aspersion. It's a scientific study. A research paper.

I detect some sensitivity...
