Car stolen

Fo several years I insured with Hagerty for what I considered fair value, plus a £2,000 margin. There was no problem at all with that valuation. I eventually left them because it was a pain making sure that car was garaged by 10pm every night if it was at home. My renewal is 11th January so I would be very grateful for all suggestions for an agreed value insurer, especially if i can still leave it in the drive overnight without worry.
Thanks,
Steve.

Is the premium that much if you just say it is stored on your drive rather than the garage? Saves you having to put it away.

I am with Privilege. It won't suit your needs as it is not an agreed value but they don't care if it is in a garage or not.

insurers are getting very funny about agreed value now wanting cars put away every night, photos in the garage, looking on google street map to check there is a garage etc and a mate of mine who had a Porsche insured with Lancaster's was told to fit a tracker device. When he said ok don't put an agreed value on it then as he didn't want the ballache of a tracker and subscription he then cancelled to be told no he couldn't as it was after the 14 days etc... He finally got out of it less some fees.

I am now into my fifth year on an agreed valuation policy on the Porsche and my first year in the GS.
My experience is:
1. Tracker is requirement for cars with an agreed valuation of £100k.
2. Requirements vary by each provider - some stipulate the car must be garaged overnight, some don't.
3. Specialist brokers (e.g. Locktons) are better placed to offer agreed valuation policies through underwriters who are generally more sympathetic and understanding of specialist/modern classics.
4. By far the single biggest non-modifiable risk factors for underwriting are postcode and age of driver(s).
5. Any insurance cancelled after 14 days cooling off period is subject to cancellation/admin fees be it for an agreed valuation or not.

Pick up any 'Classic Car' magazine and thumb through the ads and you'll find several specialist insurers being advertised.

Its a case of ringing around and discussing your requirements to find one that best matches your needs.
Maserati Club UK have an arrangement with Locktons. Other specialist brokers are in other marque forums and will also provide policies for a Maser.

Correct. I see Porsche guys insured off comparison sites for the cheapest price but then they get hot under the collar when its time to make a claim or a total loss valuation that cannot get them into a replacement Porsche. Must happen with other prestige marques.

A Plan have been excellent in getting me competitive quotes for both the Maser and my Merc. Much cheaper than anywhere else, and with an insurer that won't go bust!

Think you will struggle with agreed value and no garage.
If you are at home, and it's after 10pm, and you have a garage space allocated, why should it be a problem for it not to be in it?
If you are not at home in the car after 10pm it's still insured, even if parked outside overnight at friends/holiday etc.
Can't see the problem really.

The problem I have now found with the tracker is they no longer do the non fob option. So you need to pay £400 a year for a tracker.

In the end I found it cheaper to find a insurer that didn't need a tracker.

To be honest if my car gets stolen I don't want it back.

With parking in a garage I don't think they care or stipulate whether you are home or not. Therefore even if you are home and it gets stolen at 10:31pm from outside your house they could do rightly say it was not garaged therefore not covered.

Regardless it is a complete ball ache. I always dread it coming round to Dec when all the cars are up for renewal. It would be great if they were all on a multi car with one provider but I can't get all the stars aligned.

So I end up having to do comparison sites and call brokers etc. What a pain.

Actually retract that statement. The only car I would want back is the Noble. As I wouldn't be able to get a replacement that is as well sorted or looked after.

Really I know some low mileage non tracked examples.

Just because they are low mileage and not tracked doesn't necessarily mean they are fully sorted.

I've put in a lot of upgrades and replacement parts (not to improve the power) but just to ensure and improve it's reliability.

I think these cars like any other benefit from being driven regularly.

Getting the circular key in the ground anchors correctly is not easy, even if I remember to take a torch (pain 1) I use two two hands. I once misaligned this and ended up having to dig a trench in the concrete to get the door open. Fit a light? Pain. Garage has two motorcycles and Maser rammed in inches apart. Fitting all three in Pain 2. If one of our other cars is in the parking space in front of the garage there's a lot of shuffling to be done. Pain 3. It's late, I'm a bit ******, TV on, all cozy, sub zero outside, "bolllox I forgot to put the car away". Pain 4.

I realise all this is down to personal preference. In my case it was: say the car is kept in the drive, switch to Privilige, make sure they note what the car is worth ion their system, save £150 pa (preimum is £250 pa for me & wife) and accept that I may have to argue if there's a maximum claim. I'm pretty good at that.

Thanks again to all. Hope everyone had a happy Christmas day with family and friends.

Just thinking ahead. Insurance said they would pay me market value minus excess. Is this something i can barter if they come back with ridiculous offer or is it standard. Mine was a 2005 facelift 4200 with 70k on clock. Roughly what should i be expecting?

Also i was going to wait about 2-3 weeks before calling it quits and getting insurance money. Presume I should cancel insurance in meantime?

Thanks again for advice.

Hiya,
Not Nice to have your car stolen, even worse to know the scum bags have been in your property.
The Insurance payout is supposed to be able to replace like for like (less excess). If you dont feel you could replace the car with the money offered find some adverts of similar cars and print them off to forward to the insurance company. This might take time but if you're not desperate worthwhile. Remember Insurance Companies have all the time in the world! Good Luck

Only just seen this thread.........In the words from Pulp Fiction " You don't F**k with another mans automobile" ..........And your house, I know the feeling, and you feel violated or rapped!
I hope you get it resolved in your favor. If it comes to showing your insurers proof of the cost of other 42's try showing them this, it's been banded around on here a bit but it could only work in your favor!!

Surely the police would have checked the crime scene for footprints? From these, maybe the shoe style could be deduced.
