Why deal with unscrupulous foreigners you don't know, when you can be woodshedded by your pals?

The new SM AI plug-in mansplains that the choice of whether to deal with unscrupulous foreigners or to be "woodshedded" by friends may depend on various factors such as personal preferences, trust, and the potential rewards or risks associated with each option. Ultimately, the decision should be based on careful consideration and due diligence to ensure the best outcome.

I didn't realize you were a barrister.

Oddly, no mention of side effects from use of this forum...

@conaero good news! 720 prices will drop like the proverbial stone. Replacement announced. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a42744619/2024-mclaren-750s-reportedly-replacing-720s/

I look forward to seeing your 720, serviced and fettled by SportsBritannia, this summer.
Hmm. The problems with Maclarens pertain to the poor build quality/reliability and high servicing costs. I can't see how making the car even more powerful will help fix any of that. If they built the cars better and restored faith in the brand they might sell a few more and actually have a profitable business.

The new ones will carry a 5 year warranty with them so that will settle the reliability/TCO fears for early owners. More and more independents are also now springing up so that also helps with the running costs. I don’t think the average McLaren costs much more than a GT to run, especially when adjusted for the original price. I recently drove one for the first time and was blown away. The steering, handling, feel and power were truly next level.

I do agree with your comment about why add power though. 30 BHP on a 700+BHP car is nothing, removing 30kg would probably do more for the handling and driveability than more power.

That seems to be the case, yes. From Matt's point of view, a workshop mule will be the perfect way to expand into the maintenance of British sportscars as well as Italian ones. The darkly perilous world of McOwnership will surely be made a little brighter when he branches out a little.

Back on topic, though:

  • My battery is 6 years old so that can get replaced before it decides to **** itself and stop cooperating
  • Get the whole thing tightened up and rattle-free. It's close, but still a bit, how to put it, 'hand made'
  • Investigate the strong smell of unburned fuel on lively acceleration
  • Freshen up PPF
  • Not sell it because I can't think what could be as much fun or as silly... and all this green stuff and the financial fuckupery means I should keep it because only a fackwit would buy a 6l V12 two-seat car in this climate.

If you love it, it's the right answer...

Did the deal on the MX5

Got there, it was looking a bit sorry for itself having sat over the winter, some dick had cut the cat off it so it's got a new £400 exhaust on it, the hard top is worth a chunk of money, as is
Y** DEM so that'll be coming off

It hadn't been started for 6 months, battery completely dead, wouldn't even light the dash up

I've got one of those halo bolt air battery jump start things, connected it up and the car fired first turn and ran like a good un

The guy was more impressed with my battery pack that seeing the car running

MOT until July so I'm picking it up tomorrow

Which series?
My Dad's got a mark 2, my mate currently has the mark 4, having previously had a 2 and 3.
My Dad actually speculated on the original mark 1 back in '89. Only had it month. Can't believe that was so long ago now.

Those series 1 89 cars are worth a pretty penny now

Rust protection was rather lacking. Even brand new back in '89, it was white, and you could see rust stains from under the boot lid seals.
Add a further 34 years of our great British weather....
