Finishes today, will be interesting to see what it goes for. The corrosion in the A-pillar would be a concern but generally decent looking, if in need of some TLC:

I see it didn't sell. It got to £14,500 which was below the reserve.

Yes, I can’t help wondering what the reserve was. From pics it looks like one of those cars you could either spend a bit on tidying up and enjoy, although the rust in the A-pillar would be a concern. Or, you could sink a chunk of money into to really rejuvenate it.

It’s a good example. As I’m sure Emblem will testify. But very few people know what a mk2 Ghibli is, let alone want one. And those few that do, either want it cheap from an auction, or (at a higher price) from a respected specialist dealer/garage. They don’t want to pay retail money at an auction, which is what this owner seems to want.

Interesting that it had a big service and cambelt at Emblem earlier in the year, but the fault with the adjustable suspension was not fixed. I’m guessing the owner didn’t like the quote for that part of the work. So that would need investigating.
But this is only my guess and I could be wrong.

Overall, if it had been a manual, I’d have bought it and bitten the bullet on the suspension and A pillar. But so far, finding a late (97-99) Ghibli GT manual seems impossible. Far more rare than a Cup, but I’ve had two Cups and don’t really want another. Though the final default would be to buy a Cup and de-Cup it visually (fit GT wheels, a normal fuel filler cap, wood inserts in place of carbon, wooden gear-knob in place of metal, etc.). Thinking about it, that would be my ideal Ghibli, as it would drive like a Cup but look less Halfords and more like a GT. Food for thought…

Punchy reserve for an auto with issues then.
I think the most for a an auto I’ve seen retail (that actually sold) was the GT @dickygrace had with blue over red, and that was not much more than this and in much better Nick.
I know there’s that perennially for sale black/dark green auto up for £25k but that will be for sale for a while…

This; again....! It starts to look quite tatty under the bonnet.

‘Requires recommissioning’ which simply isn’t viable on these cars. The Ghibli GT @Nayf speaks of that we sold went for £19500 and another one we got up to standard at £15k; both proved that to get them A1 you’ll lose money. Buy one someone else has restored.

I do like the shape of the coupe but this one looks like it needs a fair bit of TLC
If it was <£2k and I had somewhere to keep it I’d be tempted. It might be the former but that doesn’t solve the latter.
I think at this stage it’s a parts car, a useful one for the chap restoring the blue 222 4v I’d suggest

That was for sale on eBay about four years ago. The wing mirror hasn’t moved in all that time!

Although, this might not be the case in Europe where a good Ghibli GT will fetch far more than it ever will in the UK. Why that is, I'm not sure.

Well, in fairness if you’re looking for a sporty GT Aston and Jaguar would be the patriotic go to for a Brit. If you fancy a bit of foreign you go Porsche.
I can understand why Maseratis of this era are so unheard of.

I’ll be honest, it’s part of the appeal.

All true, for the more predictable motoring enthusiast. Of which no doubt there are many.

However, I like to think that those with an appreciation of 'the quintessentially quirky', 'the daringly designed' and 'the predictably unpredictable' will have sought out and discovered Maserati along with other more interesting and exciting marques than Porsche etc. I can totally understand why many would be put-off by (often ill-founded) reputations for poor reliability and so on - but for goodness sake, what's the point of life if we can't live a little.

Nail hit firmly on the head in your last line Nayf - it describes the feeling I had walking past my Biturbo on the drive this morning, and again when I came home just now. Took it to a local meet recently where it received the full range of quizzical looks and facial expressions from people who've never seen one or only seen photos of them.

I'm on jury duty this week and the only reason I'm not using it is because of the steep ramps and very tight spaces in the multi-storey car park just round the corner from the court!

The Primatist has sold, but how about one of the 23 Open Cup cars, €93k. Never raced apparently.

This is now up for £12500 on eBay.
He’s having a giraffe. He hasn’t even fixed the wing mirror.
