Advice needed re dent removal

Some kind person has opened their car door into my rear door on the QP :( resulting in a very minor dent in the outer skin - cosmetic only, and can only be seen when it's clean and the light reflects off the polished surface- hence it's very annoying!! Does anyone have any experience of the mobile paintless dent removal chappies - can I trust them with accessing a Maserati door? It's not rocket science, but ...?

My car proudly bears the marks of a cricket ball. Like yours, really very small and only shows up when you notice it. The advice from my local MD was to give my local Dent Devils a call. Brilliant, apparently, and they are used by many of the local dealers to prep cars for re-sale. I haven't yet got it done but was quoted a flat fee of 75 quid. They'll fix it by manipulating it from behind if they can get access (just about possible, at an angle) or by gluing and pulling the dent ever-so-carefully.

Good luck!

Thanks for the prompt replies. My neighbour used one of the mobile dent specialists a few weeks back and they did an excellent job on a much bigger dent (and they did paint as well, which not all of them do and I don't need). I am sure they are capable of fixing it, my issue was really whether I am asking for trouble when they dismantle a door panel...anyway, I have one who will come later in the week so we'll see: will let you know. I suppose if I'd bought a GTS I would only have half the number of doors to worry about :)

They may not need to remove the door panel. As long as the paint isn't cracked they should be able to glue something on to the dent and gently pull it out. Sounds frankly alarming - you want to GLUE something to my DOOR?? But apparently it works. The same technique was used when a huge hailstform hit a field full of brand new VWs a few years ago. The roofs got pounded and that was the technique used to straighten everything out before they shipped 'em and sold 'em.

As Adam mentions the skin won't need to come off. The sign of a good paintless dent remover is to disturb the car / bodywork as little as possible. I have a real good guy I use and he never ceases to amaze me where he can get to to make repairs. For the door skin he held back the rubber window seal with a clamp and then dropped long, 'hammers" (they don't look anything like hammers, but that's sorta what they do) so that he could then nudge the dent from the inside. He's done similar on my rear wings by getting at them from the boot, and the front wing by getting at them through the wheel arches. It is indeed a dark magic, but done well the results are truly impressive.

Thanks Miles and all for the helpful advice. They guy who is coming to mine said on the phone that he would use this same technique, i.e. special tools via the window seals, so looks like it can be sorted.

Update in case it is useful for someone else: mobile dent removal guy came and examined. The dent in the rear door is easily fixable without a paint job, but can't be accessed by the usual means and the door has to be dis-assembled to do it, advised a marque specialist needed so it's booked in with Vic at Migliore next week (approx 1-2 hours job). Dent man says it is the first time he has turned down a job in 15 years, and he does lots of Ferraris etc. Reasons are (1) the window is double glazed, leaving insufficient room for access via the seal, maybe could try but risky; (2) the wide shoulder of the QP - and the dent is of course on the widest part - means the usual tools aren't long enough to reach without then levering against the window (rear in a QP only goes down about 3/4 of the way) - double glazed are prone to breakage if pressed on the edge he says. He looked into accessing via the wiring loom into the door but couldn't do that either. He said someone else might be prepared to risk it, but I wasn't.

I'm already careful about where I park - thought I was safe enough in Brooklands members car park but obviously not! Feel like adopting the two spaces strategy from now on...

Thats a pity Norman, but he could have bulled on ahead and left you with more damage than you currently have, at least you'll get it sorted

DSCN1670.jpgCan't praise these guys with the magic hammers enough.
Driving over the mountains in Sicily a bow of an oak tree came crashing down about 100 feet in front of me. I jammed on the ceramics and stopped only to watch in slow motion a piece about the size of my arm spiraling towards me. Even shouting Oh F..K didn't stop it hitting the bonnet (see pic).
Back at Meridien they got Merlin in to sort it and I'm dumbfounded by the result. Perfection only just covers it and all for 45 Quid.

Well that's a bu44er because I have exactly the same dent in the same place. No broken paint I was rather hoping it would be a sub-£100 fix.

Please let's know the finished cost.

Adam, I'm using a Guy on my GTS as we speak, ( I literally picked the car up today and took it straight to him for a few stone chips and some pin head dents). He's based in Hatfield Peverel, and I had great results from him when I had my Rover 75 done for the " Fifth Gear" that it was filmed for recently.
Let me know if you want his details.

Michael: done today at Migliore, it was £120 plus VAT all included: disassemble and re-assemble back door and the visitation from the mobile dent magician. Perfect job, totally undetectable, highly recommend them.
