I've always said that I'd do this if I won the lottery.

I spoke to Voicey to see if it was possible, he seems to think it's do able.
But then anything is do-able if you throw enough cash at it.

You'd need a bodywork write off 599 as a doner car. That'll be your hardest part.

I was very very very disappointed by a 599 GTO at the weekend. Driving immediately behind it, the sound was less enjoyable than my GS when it's half a mile away (or more) and that was even when it was floored under bridge. I then also was holding back in my Focus ST with winter tyres to keep up with it on the local B roads. Shame :(

It wouldn't look very good on a Q plate!

Can't see the point of putting the Enzo engine in a GTS. Simply buy a 599 instead! Stunning looking car in its own right, with a vastly superior interior.

That's the whole point Ewan. There is none. The GT is a prettier car than the 599. The 599 has the better engine.
Put the two together and bingo, you have the ultimate GT.

Albeit at the cost of several hundred thousand £££'s

Way prettier. And you have the bennefit of being let out of junctions and not having your doors keyed.

Any one know what any other issues would be apart from space and money?

a gto spec engine would give you 650bhp so if the novitec mc strad is anything to go by youd get to 60 in 3.9

The list of issues with this is quite long. The gearbox might be the same but the torque tube might be a different length, so you might need a custom one - this is quite an undertaking given the strength required in the assembly - if it was just a prop shaft it would be much easier. Engine mounts will be different so thats a custom subframe including suspension pickups. The bulkhead position will probably mean the front of the engine will be forward of the current position, impacting weight distribution and therefore handling. The integration of the electronics will also need attention, perhaps a full transplant from the 599 and then integration with the original BCM. It was made by a man so it can be modified by one, but its not going to be cheap and the results might not meet expectations.

I would guess the swap would be easier than with a prop-shaft based car, as there are no universal, slip or CV joints to worry about. A scrapper 599 would give the engine and bellhousing and torque tube, that would probably fit to an existing MC Shift gearbox. Only length may need adjusting - look at wheelbase of two cars, they may be close enough to even avoid that.

Fun idea! The electronics would be the real challenge (and the brakes too, if it was a MC Shift base)

Other than to find out if you can, I don't see the point. You can supercharge the v8 and get 646bhp from it which seems a far easier (and way cheaper) route to massive power. I understand the challenge of doing it but what's the real gain? As mentioned before, it's likely to be house slightly further forward in the engine bay which is a handling disaster. There's plenty of nose heavy Mercs with silly power if that's your thing.

As I said above, if I'd just won the Euro millions I'd do it, just to see if you could!

Not because it was a good idea. As it's probably not! :p

The more I am deceived by supposedly faster cars (deceived more by the ownership hurdles rather than cost - I am referring to crappy salesmen and wonky distributors) as well as grin for $$, the supercharged Strad starts to sound like a lot fun.

That surprises me. I recall seeing a 599 GTO crawling around Victoria a few years back (the chap used it as a commuter) and it sounded out of this world. Like an F1 car from a few years back. It wa ps White with a blue strip (5 DSL for the plate spotters here) and from that day forward, it’s top of my Lottery win list.
