The classic is lovely. Whilst I think the original 4200 alloy wheels were the best design of any Coupe variation, I've got to say I don't miss cleaning them. They were a total pain in the **** to clean!

But you lowered it to GS Spec so no longer original. Reversable And im sure it was an improvement. Much like the later gearbox software.

I have had both software and prefer the original tcu the main difference and by the far most rewarding is when pulling away the power comes on almost instant unlike the revised so called improved when the clutch is awaiting a telegram before the power goes though to the back wheels . This was one aspect I really hated .

I wasnt being a critic mav. Im sure they both have their benefits. I was just making the point that original isnt always best and even if it was there are very few survivors that are true originals of any car. Most people seem to end up tweaking their cars at some point to improve something to their taste. Either that or the original mfg tweaks the ecu or some component along the way. VW have a lot of tweaking to do shortly :lol2:

We all know that anything before the GranSport is inferior, whatever made-up name you want to give an outdated 4200. At least the 4200s were made in the 21st Century, unlike the 3200! ;)

i love my 4200 classico and its night and day a better drive over the 3200 but i do fear for them value wise...

the 3200 will be ok, iconic lights and the last true maserati engine... an odd ball classic.

the GS, top of the range... range toppers nearly always retain more value.

the 4200??? neither, and with lots more made.

and on the subject of software how do you check for original version?

The miles alone will prevent many increasing in real value...the majority of classis have silly low miles. If the cars continue to go down in value their maintenance suffers as a result...I love the coupe shape and if I had the money I would have a low mile 3200 and early 4200.

We will see low miles cars go up in value, this will drag up the lower end cars as dealers chase the market...but so many of those lower value cars will have issues that will make ownership a nightmare.

Visual there is a sticker on it , but the most easiest way is the double blip on down change in sport mode , best way to check is change down in auto and than try changing down in sport there should be a noticeable difference in exhaust sound (Eg a double blip )

And with Maverick(tm) exhaust mods the blip is *very* clear :)

Trying to work out the numbers I think there are just over 200 Spyders still on the road in the UK. I guess the Facelift and GS Spyders will be in the minority but I'm guessing that there are still less than 150 of the earlier Spyders around in the UK. I thought my TVR Griff was rare but I did used to see others around from time to time, haven't seen a Spyder on the road since I got mine a few months ago.

PS Thanks for the software guide, I think mine has been updated based on that.
