3200 Prices

These numbers have to be taken with a little pinch of salt as we're dealing with a broad range of cars and at times (particularly last summer) there were very few trade cars on the market. And more importantly, Maranello Autosport had a 34k miles manual car for sale for £23k for 6 months last year, which totally dominates the numbers. I had to fudge things to eliminate that car. So the graph below shows prices for: only trade advertised cars with between 35k and 70k miles; only autos. Over the period, average mileage stayed fairly constant at around 55k.

It is hard to be 100% confident in these numbers, but they do suggest price rises from Feb '15 to Feb '16 of around one third, with a positive underlying trend if you can look past the bouncing around in a thin market last summer. The April 1st '16 data seems to have gone missing from my Dropbox, but as of now, the average price for all cars with 35-70k miles is £15,924 and for all autos is £16,135.

When I purchased mine 5 years ago there was an auto for sale at £13750 with 50k, noticed one now on eBay 52k at £16995.
That's a very good graph.

In february, I did the same kind of work on a french forum (http://www.maseratitude.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4066), having the impression there was some movement in the market recently.

Obviously, we speak about LHD cars here, but I suppose you'll find these information useful.

There was at that time 112 3200GT lhd for sale, more than an half were grey (alfieri or touring).
Note that I couldn't find any difference in price between the grey cars and the others.

Average asking price was 27.115 euro
Average mileage was 85.000km

Some people here have a preference for the last 3200 (with the 2001 modifications).
These cars (33 in total at that time) had an average asking price of 28.054 euro (mileage 77500), so no big difference here.

Everybody was surprised by the result, we thought that the average asking price will be lower.
We see a lot of newcomers asking for information about the 3200 or looking for buying one. There is more interest than ever for the 3200, I wouldn't be surprised if the price increase quickly in the next few months.

We'll see.

I did the same work for the ghibli; (http://www.maseratitude.com/public_html/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1207)
Average in november 2012: 13500 euro
Average in juillet 2013: 15502 euro
Average in januari 2015: 18802 euro

Since october 2015, we have two prices, on for the pre GT and one for the GT, big differences:
octobre 2015: non-GT 19923 euro; GT 26778 euro

february 2016: non-GT 18767 euro; GT 29241 euro.

Quite unbelievable the evolution in such a short period of time.

Yep for sure the 3200 is going to be the one to hold onto long term out of all the Coupe models.

is it possible the GS is just too sorted to become a classic? i mean all great classic collectables are generally flawed and desirable for non technical reasons? like the e-type is quite a flawed car, old Alfa's generally not that good technically? old Astons are not that fast and hard to keep, and well , i mean the GS is the stand out car technically without a doubt, but i wonder..... the last twin turbo, bannana lights and all that, no flappy paddles, just old school gearbox, i am biased of course!!! :)

I think many cars become collectibles based on rarity often more than anything else. It does need to be decent and not naff to start with.

There is one Brown Allegro left in the world I believe. It's not worth much & likely never will be....for obvious reasons!

What are the rarest models in numbers?

MCV
Spyder GS
3200 AC
GS
Facelift 4200's

Would be interesting to know the numbers of the rarest models in order of fewest at top downwards.

Raritie and original desirability make a collectable car...people living their childhood desires by buying the car they had on the wall.

I tried to find this out but unfortunately the UK numbers for 2004-2008 group the 4200 Facelift and GS together. I have these combined numbers though but doesn't help much here....

3200 because it is last of old school maserati with Maserati parts. The GS will also be collectible but lacks the aesthetics and it will be similar to the E-type S1 Being more desirable/collectible than S2 or S3.

This is my take on it and not factual but based on years of car price watching.

There were 75 UK ACs, there were never any more than high fifties registered, and there are about 35ish left registered or sorned with an even split auto/manual.

Yes this and its all down to taste and reputation and lots of hard to define things. and who knows, as long as we all enjoy our cars then its all ok i think :)
