Currently prospecting about a 2010 Gran Turismo 4.2 from a main dealership. It's 28,000 mile Griglio Nuovlari, tinted windows, Stradale Carbon Spoiler and comes w/extended Maserati warranty.

They're looking £43,995, anyone advise if this sounds correct, it's in really good order w/fmsh, 2 owners.

Not the most knowledgeable on this forum but gut reaction from me is that sound like strong money for 4.2.

You can get a 4.7 for that which is a different beast all together...... ...but that is a 2010 and you would get a 2008 4.7 for that money....I know where my money would go though 4.7 as I'm sure it will hold it's value better than a 4.2 as it is more desirable.

I agree, I drove a 2011 4.7 gran cabrio and omg, the sound! This however is only 28k mile and a special colour, so i'm told. 4.2 still sounds nice and the insurance quote is £150 LESS than the QP lol.

Really....So the QP is more expensive to insure and it has the same engine and cheaper to buy.....That has surprised me........

I think if you are spending 35k then a 4.2 is a great buy...If you are spending the 44k you are thinking of then a 4.7 is well worth waiting for.......Most replies will tell you that I think. I would imagine that your QP SPort GTS is a better drive than a 4.2 GT as its a more focused bit of kit...

4.7. Have you tried driving a 4.7? I think you need to before you make a decision.

If you have the means to go for the 4.7, go for it.

Can't say I'm disappointed by the sound or build quality of my 4.2. Still a very lovely beast.

Going from the 4.2 QP GTS to a 4.2 GT what differences can I expect ref to sound, apparently the 4.2 have no valve but is the exhaust louder/throatier?
Springs (QP) vs skyhook (GT)

I drove a 4.7 gran cab today unreal sound. Are the differences merely in sound or is the build better etc?

A more powerful engine?

It is all about the torque. The 4.7 has much better torque at a lower rev range which makes it a better drive at lower speeds. In my opinion.

The QP has always been seen as a car with two characters...A prestige saloon car and a car that shrinks around you when you want to give it some..Almost like a sports cars....If you go 4.2 GT you will lose that sports car feel when pushing on. The GT is a cruiser and as such is a bit wooly due to it's size...Yes it looks fantastic and can see why you would want one on your drive but I still think your Sports GTS is the better all rounder and also hold it's value better......I also think if you pay 43k for a 4.2 you can knock 10k of that in a year. The 4.2 is desirable for punters at 32/35k.........You will notice that there are not many later model 4.2's about as Maserati struggled to sell them once the 4.7 came along.........Most 4.2's are 2007 to 2008 and a splattering in 2009..........These cars are now looking like great value 2nd hand as most are priced early to late 30's. If you really want to get a 4.2 I would hunt down one for around 35k but still think paying 43k for a 4.2 is not a great way to go......Listen to the others 4.7 at that price. Or how about the QP Sport GTS at Nuvola. 4.7, great sound, great handling, great looks....This is the best QP model you can buy and not far off your the price of the 4.2 GT...

sound of 4.2, louder than 4.2 qp?

I would have thought your QP would be louder as it has a louder exhaust as part of the Sport GTS package I believe....but I could be wrong. To be honest you can make it sound however you want it to....The best way to decide is drive a 4.2 and see how it feels. It may be the car for and you may prefer it over you QP.

Always liked my 4.2 and it never let me down. 28k on a 2010 seems respectably 'not too high', but at that sort of money? It feels a good £2-3k too much. If you're looking at spending that sort of money, hunt for a 4.7 (although you may have to accept a few more miles, I would think).

cheers guys, the main dealer has offered me a good price for the QP, I'm naturally fearful that if I hold off this offer may not stand. Whereas If I take the plunge at the gt and perhaps haggle a little, I can trade back in a year down the line but at what cost?

Hi Chris.

Bottom line is you should probably test drive the 4.2 and 4.7 GT and then make up your own mind based on that vs your QP.

Your money. Your rules.

Good luck.

All very good advise, in taking baby steps what I'm after is a better sounding car so will await a drive in the 4.2 GT to see how it compares. Does anyone know if there are many "mechanical" differences between the exhausts in the QP vs GT?

My QP is the GTS but does not come with the valve and Im not sure if it is a better/different exhaust than the Sport GT

I have a 4.7 auto so you can see what I like but coming from a 4.2 QP to a 4.2 GT you will benefit from the car being a little lighter with a tad more power. The price of the 4.2 is not silly but people are struggling to value it as you rarely see a 4.2 registered any later than 2008. Another £5-10k would see you nicely in a 2010 4.7 auto but if you really like this car then it sounds ok.
