Hi

I have searched the forum and sure there are topics on this but cant find any.

Having just had an offer accepted on a 4200 2004 model i was wondering whether its possible to upgrade the stereo or at least connect in Iphone to allow music to play. I am not interested in seeing the tracks etc on the screen as long as their is an audio in etc.

Thoughts on this please?

Thanks
D

Yep, loud link for me, welcome, in an ideal world I'd find time to move the screen and phone buttons out of the way and install an iPad or similar in their place. Unfortunately you cannot remove them as they are in the CAN-BUS matrix so need to be there.

Or there is the Parrot. There's a full how-to. I've fitted one to members' cars as well

Quick way for BT phone is the Denison unit. 10 minute install but you lose the CD changer. I did that until the LCD on the NIT failed. Now I'm in the middle of a full upgrade, albeit with 2010 parts from eBay. Regards. Fil.

I fitted an Alpine Ezi Dab, now got full DAB radio (first time the radio has been useful) and can play iPod/iPhone through it, it also displays track details and can skip tracks....

If you are replacing the speakers swap the fronts for Focal Integration ISS165 165mm 6.50" 2-way Component Kit. A previous owner paid £1400 for the much regarded Alpine system people seem to talk about on here. I was not impressed. I've got the Focals, a Sony head unit with IPOD Inside and its very good like that. I have the same H/U and speakers in my daily driver with a Gensis Q240 amp thats about 23 years old (proper vintage car hifi) and some equally ancient Kicker Subs. That is simply awesome. Class A amps sound so great!

As a follow up, I just installed a Scosche IPFMRDS. Took me about 2 hours to install, mainly because I was scared of which wires to tap into. BUT, if you are at all electrical savvy, the instructions are quite clear. There are several posts on Maserati life, and here detailing how to remove the console, and install it into the wiring system. MUCH easier if you remove the central console. It is only 4 bolts (I didn't have one under the coin tray as some people do).

Anyway, the unit was only $99.00 USD from Crutchfield.com, and antenna adapters for another $15.00. Works excellent. iPod is controllable through the screen system and full info is on the display. Works on your phone too, but it doesn't support bluetooth if you need that. The unit is hardwired to the stereo, but uses an FM channel. There's a lot of back and forth about this, but the reality, is that the speaker/ amp quality of our system doesn't support higher end solutions without costly system upgrades.

Several months into ownership now and looking at this again.

Speakers: reading on here most seem to only replace front speakers is that right? Focal integration iss165 seem to be popular but are they easy to fit please?

As for the head unit there are many suggestions on here but seem to be older suggestions and I wonder if anyone is replaced the head unit in the last year?

Does anyone know the size of the head unit and anything I need to look out for please?

Thinking of paying someone to do this for me :)
